Dostojevski - Crime and punishment (school book report)

A few months ago Japanese tourists complained that in Croatia in public toilets toilets are too high, so I think my solution to this problem is to put near each toilet a copy of this book so shorter persons can reach the toilet and if you run out of toilet paper you'll have it in almost infinite amount (the book)

i didn't think the book was shit, but i can't see why the hell it's considered such a classic. Raskolnikoff's plight just wasn't that special.

I hate that I'm the only MR-er here into sci-fi, and everyone else are fantasy-heads.

I think the book was genius. At first glance, it's like the first serious crime drama ever and with a more keenful eye it's an excellent existential psychoanalysis.

I also read some sci-fi but not too often. I've started recently (a few years ago) and have read only a few sci-fi books but I'll get into it eventually.

Watership Down is a great classic. (Good call on American Gods).

I do read SF, though admittedly not as much as fantasy, mainly because I get bored by technological jargon quite easily and prefer pre-modern settings, which is where a lot of fantasy takes place. That being said, there is some excellent SF out there- the most recent series I read was Donaldson's The Gap, which is infinitely better than his Thomas Covenant fantasy books.

I find the ideas and imagination behind sci-fi to be much more interesting than fantasy much of the time. The tech-jargon's the price you pay, admittedly some do take it overboard.

I'll check The Gap out, ta for that.

I read sci-fi, only old, old sci-fi from the 1930's-1970's.

*Strokes her collection of Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Aldiss, PKD and Stapledon*

I just finished Odd John by Olaf Stapledon after several false starts. Now I don't know whether I should wrestle with Naked Lunch by William Burroughs (again) or read Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.

I got the abridged version of the latter out 't library yesterday for the l'il sis. She seems to be enjoying it, not a huge Bronteite myself.

Are Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre worth reading if you don't have a vagina?

The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters by G.W. Dahlquist
An intriguing novel ... A big book that I devour with passion although I do not know yet (page 160 of 750) where it might go ... Anyone read it ?

Am I missing something?

I'd guess each line is a separate entry :)

Tlaloc convinced me that I must read Wuthering Heights, and as far as I know he is not a proud owner of a vagina.

I bought Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre for dirt cheap along with a decent translation of Plato's Republic. My pile of "oh wow I looove this author and this book is dirt cheap I must buy it ^^" has grown rather substantial. I haven't read some books I bought before I started university. The Conan Chronicles are staring at me sadly and the large number of Heinlein books is making me feel guilty. I think I will catch up on some fantasy and sf.
