yeah, it is. Roma are very strong this year (although Man United are also really good now). talk about man u, not sure but i think they just overtook Arsenal, and they have a game in hand as well. i don't understand these constant Arsenal slip-ups lately, especially after their amazing San Siro victory.

surprisingly (not) Benfica was eliminated by Getafe, 3-1 on aggregate, but it was for the best, imo - they got drawn with Bayern Munich, who look dead set on taking the UEFA Cup and would completely destroy Benfica.

Craig: Rangers got drawn with Sporting Lisbon! i'm a Benfica supporter but like Dago i'm behind Sporting all the way in the UEFA Cup, they're the only portuguese side left. SCP have been disappointing in the portuguese league but they have been quite decent in Europe. their number 10, Simon Vukcevic, is excellent.

Yeah they took 1. place on better goal difference. It'll be an exciting ending of this season.

Rangers drew 1-1 with Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup the other night there. How terribly embarrasing. And it mean we need to play another fucking game in this congested season we're having.

It looks like we'll end up playing Sporting Lisbon, Thistle and a league game (possibly against Celtic) within a single week.

he broke George Best's record! he's clearly the best player in the Portuguese team, but there he still has that horrible habit of not passing the ball to his teammates.

anyway, i was bored so i decided to create a "Legends" team in PES6. here is the lineup:

FORWARDS:
Johan Cruyff
Marco Van Basten
Diego Maradona
Romário
Gerd Muller
Ferenc Puskas

CENTER MIDFIELDERS
Michel Platini
Roberto Baggio
Zinedine Zidane
Alfredo Di Stefano

WINGERS
Garrincha
Stanley Matthews
George Best
---

DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS
Dunga
Franco Baresi
Frank Rijkaard

CENTRE BACKS
Franz Beckenbauer
Lothar Matthaus
Gaetano Scirea
Daniel Passarella

RIGHT BACKS
Djalma Santos
Giacinto Fachetti

LEFT BACKS
Paul Breitner
---

GK
Lev Yashin
Dino Zoff
---

of course, some players play more than one position (i.e. Baresi is also a centre-back, Cruyff plays every ofensive position, etc).

the --- means i don't know who to put there.
GK
Peruzzi? Filol? Peter Shilton? who should i put here?
LEFT-BACK
Andreas Brehme? these are giving me trouble because when i think about full-backs i think about recent and still-active players like Maldini, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, etc. . what side did Marius Tresor play in??
WINGERS
my friend suggested Bruno Conti but i don't know... can you think of anyone else??

also, Pele isn't there because i hate him. he never played in Europe, while Maradona played at the highest level with Barcelona and took Napoli to heights that they would never reach again. also he is a fucking idiot.
"You want to know how to win a title? Listen to Pele and do the exact opposite of what he says"
- Scolari, who's an idiot but nowhere near as dumb as Pele

"When he's got his mouth shut he is a poet"
- Maradona. you know you suck when even a crackhead makes more sense than you.

so, yeah, help me out lol. suggest a left-back, GK and winger (preferably left) please.
Image
Romário and legendary Benfica goalkeeper Manuel Bento :P

You'd better hope that Nani doesn't reach the portugese team. He got the biggest ego ever. Rooney flipped

Rangers 2 - 1 Hibs

I was expecting to drop points in this game after some poor displays lately, so it's a great result for us. We're 6 points clear at the top of the league, but Celtic play Gretna (the worst team in the league by a long shot) today so it will most likely go back down to 3. But we will have a game in hand.

Hey Az - Rangers or Sporting Lisbon?

Liverpool were pathetic last night. I actually took the trouble of stayin up til the final minute despite the fact that I need to get up early for work today.

Mascherano was plain stupid last night. No words can further describe his attitude. He knows very well he's an important part of the team and he literally talked his way into getting sent off. I'm very suspicious of the whole game from the start. Liverpool played like a bunch of uninspired cows, knowing it's a fuckin derby. And what makes me dubious is during Mascherano's second confrontation with the ref. Alonso held him back for a short while and just let go off him easily. What was he thinkin? You're against Man Utd for Christ's sake! You actually think you can play with 10 men left? The ref was a good distance away and Alonso along with some other mates had all the time and space they needed to stop Mascherano. And Gerrard was nowhere to be seen during the confrontation. You're the fucking captain, you ass! Isn't it your job to hold back your players and subdue them? Last night's match was not a sign of Man Utd's dominance or what so ever. It was a display of utter stupidity, clumsiness, lack of determination and inspiration, and the reason why a manager should shut his mouth from making arrogant claims on how his team is going to trounce the opponent.

They began life as two seperate Highland League teams, Inverness Caledonian and Inverness Thistle. They merged because a town like Inverness can only really support one team in professional football (Scottish Premier League teams rarely pull crowds above 8000) and got accepted into the bottom league about 10 years ago. Since then they've gradually made their way up to the top level.

Back in 1999, when they were still in the first division (that's the one below the SPL), they pulled off a massive Scottish Cup upset by Beating Celtic 3-1 at Celtic Park.

This concludes A Brief History of Inverness Caledonian Thistle for the Indian-Portugese Sorts.

ICT :dio:

what about Man United/Ronaldo? they both seem unstoppable this season. Ronaldo's goal was great, really showed his instinct. if he doesn't take player of the year this year, something is very, very wrong.

and Arsenal... i think they're out of the premiership race. they have three games with Liverpool (who are at their strongest in elimination games) and a visit to Old Trafford ahead of them. they don't have the squad to take on 3 competitions all the way through :/

Well you can't underestimate any of the teams at the moment, not even Newcastle! Arsenal have a great task before them, but something tells me they'll pull through. As much as I hate that thought (being a Liverpool fan), I think it's just possible.

I wouldn't underestimate Arsenal... I hope for Liverpool - United in the finals, as Liverpools statistic agains Manu is beyond awful, and is a weaker team than Arsenal and Chelsea at the paper. Better than Fenerbache though.

I love Ronaldo right now. He wasn't very good until the goal last night. That just shows his confidence. I also think Ferdinand was extremely impressive last night.

Way to fuck up your team Abramovich. Chelsea lost against Fenerbahce and did virtually nothing the whole game. Avram Grant should seriously gtfo and they should hire a proper manager before it's too late.

I didn't watch the Liverpool-Arsenal match except for the final 10 minutes. On the whole, it's a great scoreline for Liverpool, but this doesn't mean they can take their feet off the pedal during the next CL match. We're meeting them again this weekend and I'm sure it's gonna be interesting as hell.

Oh, and what a sorry thing to happen to Chelsea. Deivid's goal is by far the best goal this week.

It's great to see that Turkish football is still strong. I miss the days when other teams dreaded playing at Galatasaray.

Don't underestimate Barça. They are playing awful, they are not a team, but they have a bunch of great players that can win everybody... And against Manchester, Messi will be back.
