Sorry, no sale. Cops have it hard enough dealing with junkies and pissed neds at 3 in the morning. And not to sound like an Express columnist or anything, but where does the cost of all this extra policing come from when the "TONY BLAIR IS TEH WAR CRIME!" banner-wavers come to town?

Ah, yes, because policemen are there purely to pick junkies up off the streets. That and stopping speeding motorists, and taking bribes, the corrupt pigs. We wouldn't need extra police if our government wasn't in bed with fascists!

Ok, that was OTT, but the first bit counts.

I've never understood why stopping speeding motorists is a bad thing, to be honest. It's against the law, right? It kills people, right?

Only if they run into the road after footballs or whatever. Let such fools be crushed!

Seriously, I thought that's what traffic cameras were for? If they don't work because you can buy little boxes that tell you when to slow down, then do something about that. Put the policemen where they're needed, like locally and on marches and stuff.

Bah. Without all the "Tony Blair war criminal posters" isn't there a good chance he would actually still be in charge? He went because the fact everyone hated him became so visible, right? Seems like most people should be thanking them rather than taking the piss. Protestors are the people that are actually doing something rather than just affecting trendy apathy.

Let's look at the situation here. Tyrannical murderous regime wins right to host the Olympic games, and remains completely unchallenged because Western politicians try and tell us that it's better if they have it because the Olympics will bring a spotlight on them that will make them improve.

Mind-bogglingly unsurprisingly, no such thing has happened, and said tyrannical regime, in the week that the torch is going round the world, marches into a colonized country and starts massacring people on the streets. This is to say absolutely nothing of what goes on inside that country.

The politicians still won't say anything. Partly because they're spineless creatures, and partly because an awful lot of the unpleasantness and repression that goes on there, Western companies working in China are deeply complicit in.

So then, a whole bunch of people decide that they're going to challenge the assumption that everything about this scenario is just fine and dandy. They make the organizers of the relay of harmony or whatever it is called look like fucking twats in front of the rest of the world. Same thing happens in Paris, and the same thing happens in San Francisco. Sorry, but anyone who thinks they are the bad guys in all of this needs their head examined

None of it was violent. Konnie Huq had about 15 Chinese bodyguards. Three cheers for semi-peaceful protest, for without it you only need to look at a few history books to realise the world would be a vastly worse place than it is now.

Maybe all the extra policing wouldn't be necessary if the British government didn't have it's reputation of beating down on protestors to think about? :omfg:

Seriously rio, I'd like you to think what would happen at these "peaceful" protests without policing.

I'm not pro-China, and I'm not against protesting their right to hold the 'lympics either. I just have a particular dislike for the sort of person who spends their life mapping out the protests they're going to attend. I've known them in uni. They're all cunts. They don't offer anything productive to the world at all.

Sounds like some sweeping generalisations there, but fine if they're all cunts then they're all cunts. Of course they aren't offering anything productive. What they are offering is destructive. Unfortunately, there are a great many things that could do with a little destruction, and the prestige of the Chinese state is one of them. Doesn't seem to me like anyone except these cunts have the bollocks to do so at this juncture.

Seems he is alive. Which is good, as him and Mark from Smart were my childhood heroes.
