Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell--Susanna Clarke

Supposedly the greatest work of fantasy since Tolkien...I'm about 80 pages in and it's really good so far. Really interesting take on magic as something that 19th century gentlemen do.

I wouldn't call it that great, but it is a really well written and fun work- Clarke captures the 19th century British tone perfectly, and the footnotes in particular are hilarious.

That's what one of the critics in "Praise for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell" or whatever said. And yeah, I don't think I'll find it to be that good, but it's definitely something original in the fantasy genre. We'll see, though.

Read a couple of intro books on Wittgenstein and Heidegger while at the airport and still reading Brothers Karamazov.

I read it about a year ago. It was not too bad, but it is a little slow at the beginning. It took me about 100 pages to finally get into it. Overall though it was a pretty good book.

If it's the write book, basing a novel on Hegel just doesn't sound fun.

It's more of a mind-bending, interesting book than something 'fun'. Even Sirius is at the heart not a very fun book, and it's about a damn talking dog.

I read the novel of the movie "21" called "bringing down the house"

It was a very fast and fun read. I thought it would be better to read the book (as it is the truth) rather than pay more to see the inaccurate movie. I'll rent the movie for a buck in 6 months.

Finished "The Fall Of Hyperion" last week, it was really great actually, i loved both books although i think the first one is a little better, i already bought "Endymion" i hope it will be as good as the first two but im taking a break from Simmons right now so im currently reading " The Pillars Of Earth" already on the firts 300 pages and i must say is very entertaining, so thanks to all who recommend it.

John le Carre - The Mission Song

I love le Carre, he's like a left-wing Forsyth without all the dreary detail. And better at plots, too.

Joseph Heath and Andrew Potter - The Rebel Sell; interesting look at adbusters and other "anti-consumerism" messages. i don't agree with everything they say (they make straw man arguments sometimes), but it's definitely worth reading. also very easy to read since i've gotten through 200 pages in 4 days :X

One more week of exams, which means I can finally start reading things for pleasure instead of spending all my time doing school readings or writing exams and essays. Looking forward to it, and yesterday I started:

Colleen McCullough- Caesar's Women
