Hey azrael shut the hell up ya bastad you have the best everything in the world anyway leave the defense to the italians ok? Quaresma sitting on the bench? Jeezus christ man!

Greece shouldn't be allowed into these tournaments, seriously I almost died watching that. Thank god for Zlatan.

I didn't think we would see more than 1 goal in the Sweden - Greece match so it was a quite nice surprise for me :D But still, our defense was quite shaky at times despite the fact that Greece's offense was pretty much non-existent. Spain is going to wipe the floor with us if we don't tighten that up.

wel hellraiser, i think it's worth missing some sleep, at least over Spain and Portugal's games. also, root for Portugal you bastard. we have a jinx as well - after two youth world cups, Portugal never lived up to its potential, making the euro 2000 and world cup 2006 semi-finals and euro 2004 final only to lose. in 1984, 2000, and 2006 we lost the semi-final matches to France every single time.

cupdog: actually i'd say that at least in this tournament our defense was tighter than Italy's
Quaresma is on the bench because quite frankly he's shit. even for FC Porto he turns in like great performances one game and awful performances the next... unfortunately for the portuguese team it's like a great performance in one game and 3 or 4 really shitty matches. he's way too inconsistent to justify a bet on him during such a big tournament.
why Simão and Nani make a better choice than Quaresma (imo):
- Simão is all-round a very good player - fast, good dribble, shot and cross and lethal with dead balls (even if we also have Ronaldo), plus he's ten times more consistent than Quaresma. also his experience makes him my first choice.
- Nani may be younger and less flashy than Quaresma but he's gained good experience and discipline playing under Alex Ferguson this season.
his "trivela" (outside of the foot) kick is still awesome though

You're right. He is a player most nations would kill for but if you have Simao, Nani and Ronaldo I guess he is bound to sit on the bench. But if he gets his act together it's no question that he'll be one of the best players in Europe. He's got mad skills.

Woo he's coming in for Simao now, let's see how he does.

lol he scored. Simão played a poor match today, they closed him down and he barely fought it. Quaresma was at the right place at the right time..

all-round a good match for Portugal. had some shaky moments but stood firm even after the Czech goal. Scolari's substitutions did more harm than good, imo, with the defensive Meira coming in leaving only Deco and the uninspired Simão to handle offensive midfield (plus Ronaldo, but he's more a "doer" than a "thinker" you know?). our football lost some quality then.

Deco was man of the match, it's hard to believe it's the same player who had a shitty season for Barcelona. Nuno Gomes was discrete but crucial (nice one-touch pass in the first goal).

also a note for Petr Cech - BEST GOALKEEPER IN THE WORLD

as for favourites, i see Germany winning this, or maybe Italy if they get their act together. Spain and Portugal are playing some good football but they always screw up against teams with a solid defense (obviously i hope this changes this time round). i definitely have higher hopes for Portugal now than before the competition started, though.

I think they both did pretty well for water-polo standards.

SPAIN! SPAIN! SPAIN!

Well to tell you the truth, Portugal is in my top 3 favourite teams this year. Not a fan of them but from what I've seen, they're playing really sweet football and that's all we want.

I really feel sorry for the Swiss, I didn't expect them to bow out this soon.

The Greeks can start packing.

yeah, fucking Greece.. and this year they can't even defend right. still hard to believe these are the people who beat us at home in 2004.

today it's Germany x Croatia, which will probably decide the 1st and 2nd place in this group. i hope Germany wins, so we don't have to face them.

Surely Switzerland's goal vs Turkey was a mile offside? Or was Chritian Panucci in a pub across the road playing him on?

lol. The funny thing is the guy who scored for Switzerland and the guy who made the assist were of Turkish descent as well.

Now if we go through we go up against Croatia and Portugal will be against Germany, probably that is. That's a nice chance for us to go further in this tournament.

I kind of figured that from the "Hakan" part of his name. He's a quality footballer is that Hakan Yakin Foshakin.

with the Czech Republic sucking so badly this year and Turkey showing such determination, it's not hard to imagine them going through. wouldn't put my money on either team, though.

i'd love it if Austria beat Germany or tied (and in that case Poland won), so Portugal would play one of them.

i'm kind of pissed that we're probably playing Germany in the 1/4 finals, but even if we didn't face them then we'd face them in the semi-finals (assuming we go through). either way, Portugal has to show they can beat a team like Germany, France or Italy if they want to be European champions.

Craziest match I've seen so far. Not for the faint of heart.
