Saw the Bourne Ultimatum, the third one yet the first I'd ever seen. It was pretty lame- there was barely a plot (and the twist was lifted straight from X-Men 2- actually, the plot amounts to about one scene from X-2), and while some of the action/chase sequences were cool and Matt Damon decent, shakey cam disease ruins all. Seriously, why the fuck does anyone think shakey cam is a good idea, and why are directors now using it even in conversation scenes?
So ya, I have no clue why these movies are so popular. Maybe I need to see the first two or something, but I probably won't.
I thought the third one sucked. The first one is damn awesome though. The second is a decline from that and the third one from that. Seriously, watch the first one. It is good.
Glad to see that atleast two people agree with me on these films. First Bourne flick is great but then they started with the MTV-music video inspired directing and all went to shit. God I hate the camera work in the second and third. You simply do not jump between twenty different angles in a few seconds during a simple conversation, it's bad taste and completely useless. And it also takes the edge of the action scenes since the whole movie is shot the same way.
I saw Gone Baby Gone yesterday. At first I didn't think much of it, and I actually thought it was about to end at around the one hour mark. But as things developed, earlier scenes started to make sense, small details became important and the ending brought everything together masterfully. Absolutely brilliant. Especially the very last scene, it really got me thinking back and putting things together even more.
