yes, i confirm - it's Bosingwa and not Boswinga. better get used to it, though, because you'll be seeing him oftne at Chelsea :P

and yeah, Ricardo sucks. he's only good for penalties. i think he and the national team are even now - he's lost us enough games to compensate for his penalty heroics in 2004 and 2006. i have to ask myself whether Benfica's Quim, who left the squad due to injury, wouldn't do a better job on crutches than Ricardo.

a team that wants to be European champion simply can't suffer goals like the second, nevermind TWICE! i think Ballack fouled in the third goal (if it was the other way around, it would have been a penalty), but that's no excuse for Ricardo's shitty goalkeeping and the defense's general lack of attention. everyone saw that that was our weak spot, the squad discussed that in the days before the game, but we still fucked up.

up front, Portugal keeps hitting the wall with teams like Germany, France and Italy (.. and Greece ).

Nuno Gomes did a good job in what may have been his last game for Portugal. say what you will about his performances with Benfica, for the national team he was always there, unlike that piece of shit Pauleta. also good goal from Postiga, although it was too little too late for the team. Deco would have taken man of the match if we hadn't lost - amazing performance. if Barcelona drop him, there won't be a lack of clubs willing to pick him up.

defensively, 3 fatal errors, 3 goals. i hate how the defense can seem rock solid one minute and complete shit the next. Bosingwa was quite crap, imo, but he did a great job in the first two games. for some reason the team kept insisting on him to make the crosses.

on Germany... great team. individually the defense doesn't sound that impressive (in my opinion), but their organisation was flawless. Schweinsteiger can go fuck himself, he's been in all 6 goals Germany scored against us in the last 2 clashes. maybe he was raped by a portuguese man in his youth.

i'm rooting for the Netherlands, Spain and Germany now, in that order.

Sigh, I expected a very interesting match with both teams smoking each other. Well they did eventually but I just couldn't understand how Portugal could be so cheap in conceding goals. I didn't watch the game but I did catch the highlights, and from it, Ronaldo seemed quiet. How did he play, guys?

It's rather disappointing for Portugal to go out this early, in fact, it would be rather disappointing if either team goes out, considering their strength and performance so far.

So I guess the jinx still stays uh, Az?

Ronaldo started pretty anonymous, but became more and more visible.. Played some very nice passes, did a couple of dribbles, and fired a terrible freekick.

I've always found Deco a consistent player. And it puzzles me that the new guy at Barca is getting rid of him, Eto'o and Ronnie. WTF?!

if by jinx you mean any team with some level of consistency at the back (germany, france, italy and... greece), then yes, we haven't broken it yet. also dead balls seem to be our weakness - lost on a corner to greece, conceded against CZ on another corner, and finally lost to germany through two free kicks. there is no excuse, especially in the third goal - the players had more than enough warning.

RICARDO WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?!

the ref was kind of crap, imo, as there was a foul in Ballack's goal and Nuno Gomes was pulled down in the box, but i'm not going to press this issue as the team once again didn't have what it takes to be champions.

in desperation, we did the usual - stupid mindless crosses into a box where the defenders were much taller than us looking for a striker that isn't that good. we did score, but after, what, 30 crosses? Italy was 3-0 down to Holland but always kept playing their own game. why can't we not lose our heads whenever we're losing?
when we scored the first one, in that period, we caught germany with their pants down a few times, but always went for a more controlled attack than a rapid counter-attack. you can't give the germans time at the back, they reorganise themselves very very fast.

finally, Ronaldo. what a strange player. he's probably the most complete there is, at least in ofense: excellent shot, cross, dribble, pass, you name it. he didn't play as a striker yet he scored 43 goals this season!!
but somehow he's not the kind of dominating player you give the ball to to organise the game. he's not a thinker, he's a doer. Portugal must think he's another Deco, Figo or Rui Costa. just give him some space and he'll make the shot or vital last pass, but don't expect him to create goals out of thin air like the other 3 i mentioned.
i guess he can't win matches by himself... i think that he makes a weak team only 10% better, but a strong team 120% better. you know?

Wise words, I agree and think the same.

Man, the Turks are insane. But I don't think they can do it a fourth time in a roll. Their team is sort of decimated by injury and yellow cards, not to mention the fatigue. I think Germany will crush them. But still, amazing finish. I feel for Modric though.

And I still say what I said in the beginning: Germany will win the championships, beating Italy in the finals. So far my predictions have come true.

Germany x Italy was also my first prediction, but i hope it doesn't happen. Spain and Holland's performances and Portugal's strong start made me believe that good football could finally win a major competition.

Turkey have been amazing, they show great determinaton. Rustu more than made up his error with the penalty save and a string of good saves (the free kick at 80' i think was excellent).
Portugal hasn't turned a single game around in the last 8 years except two against England, while Turkey have turned around 3 games in this competition alone :dio: :dio:

Well, we're through to the semis. Let's see if we can pull another rabbit out of the hat. We're going to need it against Germany who crushed the only team we lost against, Portugal.

wow, Netherlands x Russia is being quite a good match. Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko are very very unlikely to stay in the russian league after this tournament.

EDIT - what the fuck!! 3-1, and Russia completely dominated The Netherlands, who had so far been the best team in this competition, and with good football to boot!!
Arshavin was fucking amazing, and Guus Hiddink is a master!

Germany is like a tank, moving slowly in a straight line but crushing everything in its path. Germany 2 x 0 Italy in the final.

Well, Russia, playing some of the best football I've seen in years, has destroyed Holland (It's really the same Russia we have won 4-1?)

Today, spain will fight against history... and this time, I'm pretty sure we'll win (Torres & Villa)

The real winner of this eurocup will be football... A great difference with last eurocup & last world championship.

dude, they dominated their group. somehow last night tthey just couldn't get into gear, while Arshavin played probably the game of his life and Russia were nothing like the 2nd team from Group D.

talk about 2nd teams, they all won their matches. the trend doesn't look good for Spain

but i'm rooting for Spain. they face an even tougher battle than Portugal did against Germany. in 2006 Italy were so-so in the group stage and were unstoppable from then on. here's hoping they don't "awaken" tonight.

EDIT - i just wanted to say that i think ALL BETS ARE OFF. this Euro 2008 has been really good but also really unpredictable. every team has something going for them, but also a reason to disappoint:
- Spain have to defeat history, but if they do there's nothing stopping them from taking the gold
- if Italy finally wake up they can wipe out the opposition
- Russia played probably the best football in the competition last night but could very well disappoint in the semis the same way Holland disappointed in the quarter-finals
- no one knows to what point Turkey's spirit will keep them in this. they're down to 12 field players, with the third goalkeeper training to play in a regular field position. 4 players are suspended and a bunch of them are injured, but we've seen how these guys face adversity.
- if Germany get into gear they're like a tank, like Pasqua said...

I'm going to have to say Boulharouz's wife getting taken to hospital and having a stillborn baby had something to do with it.
