Righting about hating society is different than hating your middle class parents or high school bullies.

Oh yeah - I can understand why, because grunge is simply depressive, boring, "emo" shit. Maybe the music ain't so bad, but the vocals, the singing makes me vomit. Nearly all grunge singer are singing as if the have a stake in their ass. It sounds just stupid, disgusting and fake. Just listen to Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and so on.

Just listen to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_qRTMKD ... re=related

Which metal fan wouldn't smash the fist in their faces?! This singing makes me sick and aggressive too. ARGHHH!

There is one "grunge" Band, which doesn't make this feeling in me, and this is Nirvana. Maybe, because the singing is a little bit different...

But, Alice in Chains was, is and will ever be the deadly enemy of all real metal fans and Bands. That's just the way it is.

All three are childish and stupid.

I mean, come on. Hating "society" is every bit as whiny and stupid as hating your "middle class parents" and hating the "bullies who picked on you in high school."

Since when was Stone Temple Pilots really a "depressing" band?

Every grunge band made me depressive, as they nearly killed the rock and metal business in the early nineties.

Just listen to the singing.

What do you mean by "hating society"?

Hating society is a pretty right-on thing to write lyrics about, IMO. Lots of intelligent adults hate society, many for damn good reasons, whereas it tends to be only teenagers or manchildren that hate their parents just for the sake of it. (Obviously this excludes people who had abusive or neglectful parents, who may have better reasons for doing so)

Society has many legitimate reasons to hate it without making yourself seem immature or childish in the process.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "hating society." If you mean "hating the way things are shaping up in the world" (ie. governments, law enforcement, etc.), I can see some legitimacy. But if you mean "hating society" as in "hating everybody in the world", then that's just stupid.

yeah, while you can sound like an idiot while being anti-society, you can also do it eloquently. writing about hating your parents or whatnot, it's basically impossible not to sound like an idiot.

So all three of those are good songs with decent vocals. The AinC song is one of their best. Maybe it's because I grew up listening to it but I don't see Pearl Jam and AinC as being the opposite of metal. And no matter how bad Steve Weiland gets, STP is still better than metalcore.

Oh and society as in the collective actions not the individuals within it.

AinC is metal. So are Soundgarden, listen to Badmotorfinger, it's metal, it's really good, and a clear influence on stoner scene. And Nirvana's Bleach is metal too. (Not the rest of their discography)

Nirvana's vocals are better than AiC or Pearl Jam's?! Wow. Never thought anyone would think that.

And Scott, I'm fairly sure Chester Benningtonfieldsville was abused as a kid. Not that that excuses Linkin Park, of course, but still.

And I think pretty much everyone has a kind of love/hate relationship with their parents, which is why I HATE MY PARENTS lyrics always seem at once silly and strangely... right.

At least, in Metalcore we have guitar solos. It's not about quality, it's about Style.

Bands like Alice in Chanis are the reason why Metallica made something like Load or Reload. Just listen to "Where the Wild things are".

Better in a metal/punk way of better. I like for example the singing style of James Hetfield on Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning better than on Load or Reload. Maybe he has improved, but the whole style is different.

If anybody says that grunge is real metal, than he has to be locked in a room and must listen 24 hours to Slayer, Iron Maiden, old Metallica, old Megadeth and so on. :P

Metalcore and Limp Bizkit is more metal than grunge. ;)
