Bioshock... Best game ever

+1 on that. Not on the Half-life 2 part...

And Raven, Gamespot is a pretty shitty site as far as game reviews go but Oddworld is a pretty sweet game. Ninja Gaiden is supposed to be good as well, but I've never played it. I've heard of all the others but as my memory serves, none of them were really supposed to be great games.

Can you recommend a good game review site? Gamespot is just where I've always gone to check things out. So, you have some background info on me, I'm not a real serious gamer. Don't get me wrong, I love playing video games but I'm a player who wants to have a good time but not spend my life working through a title. Some of my favorite games are Halo (all of them), Darkwatch, Star Wars Republic Commando, Gears of War, Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb, Madden Football, TombRaider, Bloodrayne 2, Castlevania titles, Devil May Cry titles, and fighting games. I'm not a very big fan of RPG's.

IGN.com is my favorite site...great reviews and they also have video reviews to relieve us of any effort whatsoever. With Gamespot, I know they've been accused of skewing scores to satisfy publishers and also I remember a few occasions where they rated ok games really highly...can't remember specifically, but whatever.

Games I recommend for you if you haven't played them: Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Grand Theft Auto IV. I know those aren't original Xbox games, but Xbox overall was just a pretty shitty system...Halo was pretty much the only good exclusive. But, you might be able to find Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on Xbox...not sure if it was released on Xbox but it's a great game.

eurogamer.net is usually alright for reviews, though lately they've been wavering a bit.

Ign can sometimes suck too. I guess you best go to gamerankings.com as I always do.

Anyway I've finished Assassin's Creed. What a wasted potential there. I'm sure the sequel is going to be one of the best games ever tho.

Also I've played F.E.A.R. which had totally slipped under my radar. Nice game but a bit repetitive. The scary bits are great and the AI is great but the storytelling could be better. Anyone played the expansions? Should I bother?

Just got Unreal Tournament 3 for the 360.

And I also agree with the IGN support. That's my main site when it comes to games.

My main gamesite is Gamespot. The reviews are very accurate aside from a few bad ones. Halo 3 is a great example, although I thought Bioshock was a 7/10, so I may be wrong.

The problem with IGN is the layout, the site looks like one giant advertisement, and I can never figure out how to navigate the site.

Uch, I hate Gamespot. When they're not paid by publishers to adjust scores, they're biased in favour of systems (ie, the X Box 360). Though IGN has a few duds now and then, I generally do find them reliable. Of course, no video game reviewer can compare to Yahtzee Crosshaw:

Anyway, thanks to Octaviarus, I'm going back into FFIX.

Thanks Heatseeker. I checked out the reviews for all of the games I bought over at IGN and they all ranked rather well (between 8.0 to 9.9) except for Painkiller. I'm not worried about Painkiller because it was bought expressfully for what it is, a mindless FPS that just wreaks havoc on all the nasty inhabitants of hell. I started playing Ninja Gaiden yesterday and that one is really a cool game. I love when I can get in about 1.5 hours of slice and dice.

I appreciate the recommendations you gave. I was already thinking of checking into Bioshock once I can get that one a bit cheaper as a used title. I figure by Christmas time it should be damn cheap. I've never been a fan of the Grand Theft Auto franchise though. I just don't like anything about it.

I have another question for you. Like I said I'm not that into the specs of the systems all that much. What was so bad about the XBOX? I'm just curious to know.

Thanks.. :)

I like Angry Video Game Nerd, but I think that he gets old fast- a lot of his humour is just random swearing, whereas Yahtzee is pretty witty and out there in his humour. Still, gotta give credit where its due, and AVGN's review of the Bible Games is still hilarious.

Painkiller is actually a really good game. It's tons of fun, although it is kind of mindless.

about GTA... sometimes i get the feeling that it's not a very good game. i mean the detail and freedom is absolutely amazing, but the gameplay.. it could be better, no?

Hhmmm? Yahtzee ? Please elaborate. I already enjoy AVGN's reviews and I would welcome another witty and humorous reviewer!
