I dunno if I even have to post anything more than that. :P

I'm 23. Been a fan of metal since I was told to check out Master of Puppets when I was 14. I didn't know shit about music and hearing that album got me into the genre. Shortly after I picked up Clayman by In Flames after reading a review and I suppose the rest is history.

I'm really big on melodic death, black metal, and yes I even like metalcore if done right ( Naeara, Unearth, All That Remains... At least IMO ). I'm a bad person. I pretty much only enjoy metal but I do branch out every now and then... Non metal bands I'm into are Depeche Mode and Pink Floyd to name a couple.

I just started going back to school after realizing a highschool education doesn't really cut it in the job market... I work online doing customer service for lewt.com which sells items/currency for MMORPG's. It's a pretty solid job as I get to waste even more time online spamming forums and listening to metal.

I'm a huge gamer... Been playing since I was a kid. I love RPG's and MMORPG's and currently own a PS1/2/3, PSP. I've owned all other console systems at one point and time outside of the Wii.

Love horror movies, The Evil Dead being my favorite. The gore, the merrier.

Can't really think of much else.

Hello. As you probably guessed, my name is Brahm and my last name starts with a K. I'm a twenty year old who has lived in Montreal my entire life. I was born into a Jewish family, though luckily, not a religious one (and I'm sorry to hear about your experience, Zad). Nonetheless, I did go to a Jewish elementary school. Unlike just about everybody here and their mother, I was not a child prodigy- I was quiet, shy, and lived nearly entirely in my imagination. Although I became very interested in Judaism at one point (about when I was 9 or so), my hebrew teachers at this school (with a couple exceptions, of course, and I am grateful to those patient and understanding teachers) mocked and derided me enough that by the age of 12, I rejected belief in God and Judaism. By that age, I had also grown more confident and made many friends who I'm still friends with, and who helped transform me into the manic douchebag I am today.

High school years were filled with that manic douchebaggery, as I ran into walls, got naked quite a lot and had an all around good time. I didn't not take school seriously at all and wouldn't do any work, leading to some Ds and an F or two as well, except for in english, which I did pretty well in (if there is one thing I was ever advanced in as a kid, it was reading- I read stuff like Michael Crichton in grade 4 and by the age of 12 my favourite writer was Steven King and my favourite books It, Lord of the Rings and Les Miserables . Luckily, thanks to some great teachers, my parents and a growing nterest in history and literature, I got my shit together around the age of 15 and started doing well, enough that I got into a good liberal arts program in cegep (pre-university) which would turn me into the manic, douchebaggy ancient history nerd with a winning smile we all know and love today.

I got into metal in high school as well- starting off with Metallica when my friend introduced them to me when I was 12 (before, I had listened to pop punk and stuff like Queen and the Doors- Queen and the Doors obviously rock). From there, my friend introduced me to bands like Shadows Fall and In Flames, and thats when my love for metal really began, as I explored the thrash, NWOBHM and power metal scenes in particular. I also got into guitar during high school, and actually played it pretty intensely for a while- I still play, but mainly for fun whenever I feel like fucking around.

And now I'm going into second year in Classics at McGill University, and working at a bookstore full time during the summer and part time during the year. I love the department and had a great time this year, have great friends, a loving family, and you sexy motherfuckers to look forward to on the internets. So, life is awesome!

And damn, that was long. I'm manic, nerdy, douchebaggy and longwinded, apparently.

Yeah, I must say that after reading about Zad's experiences, I can see why he'd have some gripes with religion.

I was born Pathmarajan Thuraippah Varatharajan. I was named by my paternal grandmother and I'll hate her for eternity for that. My maternal uncles can't even pronounce my name so everyone calls me Pat or Pathman. I was born in a small town in Seremban back in 1984 and lived in the city (Kuala Lumpur) for a good 13 years before I moved back to Seremban in '98. I went to a Methodist missionary school, Methodist Anglo Chinese School and I'm the third generation in my family to study there (granddad, dad, me, brother). We are arch rivals with the Catholic St. Pauls Institution and I've been in numerous patriot-fights with the Paulians (often over football or girls).

I was a biology-chemistry student back in high school but I didn't make the grades to continue it in college. Instead I was offered a Bacherlor's in Computer Science majoring in Interactive Media. I never knew I would like it but it opened me up to an industry that was very foreign to stereotyped Indian/Ceylonese families: Advertising. I'm a copywriter at the moment and I enjoy the job. But things aren't really good at the office, bad business and bad management. I'm looking out for better jobs and I'm really praying that I can get my ass out as soon as possible.

Musically I was introduced to Deep Purple and Rainbow at six by my uncles but it was only 8 years later that I had interest in it. Deep Purple is still till today the band that got me into rock music and 1 year later I found Iron Maiden who happens to be the most influential band in my life. I'm a bassist so go figure.

Athletically, I've done nothing else besides football (or soccer for you American/Australian goons). I started playing with my uncles when I was five and I've been a central defender since. I enjoy playing as a fullback and quite recently I've got a liking for central midfield. I was a pretty decent footballer until I went to college. I was a feared defender back in my neighbourhood with a track record of breaking 3 different player's legs and twisting another player's back. I love tackling and it was something I was really good at. I was a hothead back in school and my victims also include a referee who ended up with a black eye and an opponent with broken teeth. I'm currently the skipper of my neighbourhood team and we're pretty decent. Like I said, I was a pretty decent player until I went to college. The college I went to didn't have a field and I fell out of football because of that. Smoking and drinking heavily led to my 22kg weight gain and a serious loss in fitness over the 3 and a half years at college. Now that I'm working, it's even harder to play any football but I try very hard to fit in a game or two during the weekends. I've been hit very badly and I blame myself for it. I've lost stamina, pace and shooting power and embarrassingly, I've lost the courage to barge in for headers and challenges. I'm just an overweight, deteriorated and watered down version of my former self and I miss the days when I used to strike fear among the guys I played with/against. Now, I'm the last person they call up for a game if there's still a vacancy left in the team. Sigh.

Oh by the way, I've been a die hard supporter of my state team, Negeri Sembilan and Liverpool since I was 5.

A couple more things about myself.

I was baptized Catholic at birth. However, while my mom was Catholic, my dad was Protestant. So they often had a lot of arguments/disputes over my dad's more conservative religious beliefs. I went to a predominantly Jewish school until the end of first grade, went to a public school second grade, and then went to various Catholic schools from third through twelth grade. I found myself questioning/pondering my religious beliefs in high school. But, at age 17, I decided that I do in fact believe in God. And I retained my Catholic faith for many different reasons (most importantly, I just find Catholicism to be a really cool religion!). Right now, my own spiritual development is a very important part of my life.

Ironically, it was when I decided I was a believer that I became a metal fan. :) I took an interest in metal around the same time, and shortly after, I bought Load by Metallica. I then collected every Metallica album, along with several classic rock albums and also (get this) The Marshall Mathers LP. My first non-Metallica metal album was Countdown To Extinction by Megadeth. Gradually, I got into more and more bands (most metal and hard rock, but some neither). And now I have a pretty clear idea of what I like and don't like in music.

As my new sig should suggest, I'm also a big Detroit fan. Detroit Synergy is a Detroit fan group I recently joined after leaving my university's volunteer club (I did a lot of volunteering when working on my first Bachelor's Degree and became interested in things like volunteerism and urban studies). I also used to be in the Boy Scouts and actually became an Eagle Scout when I was 17. I haven't really been involved with the Scouts in over three years, though.

Hey Seinfeld, I used to think it's hard or near impossible to be metal and religious at the same time, but you've proven me wrong!

I'm probably the one who got into metal the latest, at 18 years of age, I'm 21 now. I was always into music one way or another, I was listening to Whitesnake when I was 2. Though until I hit 15 I never listened heavily to one particular genre. At 15 though I was heavily into rap (dark, dark, dark times) and this carried on until I hit 18 when I heard HIM on MTV I really liked the song (Wings of a Butterfly) and this caused me to buy a Metal Hammer mag cause HIM was on the cover.

I slowly began converting to metal because of the free CD which had the likes of Arch Enemy, Opeth, Within Temptation and Primal Fear on it. I couldn't handle the extreme stuff yet, but the goth/power metal blew me away, especially since I was getting sick of rap at that point in time but I didn't know about anything better. So from there I started listening to power metal bands, and eventually Opeth's The Grand Conjuration clicked, with me liking the growled vocals, and the rest is history.

So I believe it's time that I write my story too, and here it is...

I was born in Osijek where I still live, my first memories (except bombing, and artillery pounding) were looking upto my father, he was professional rower and he was like a God to me. Instead like every other fathers took their sons on football games, he took me on the regattas and there is where I started loving rowing, and as a goal I wanted to be better rower than my father (which I could accomplish). So I never liked football I treated it like every other sport while rest of the kids treated football like the most important thing in life. That's why other kids disconnected me from almost every activity and there were lots of attempts of bullying me because I never liked football I beated the living hell of them and there's the beginning of my "assholism". I simply realized that most of people are like dogs (or any other animal) they won't respect you of who you are or what you do (maybe if they could make profit out of it)until they know you're more powerful than they are; "superior to them"(that's what I do when someone is showing signs of hostility). Very few people really enjoyed my company, but with time i started meeting people with similar tastes and opinions like me, I'm slowly beginning to socialize and finally meeting with people that also believe that football isn't the most important thing in life. Idiots!

This thread has taught me that the love of "football" is the new form of nationalism on the Eurasian continent.

Actually, one could say the same thing about American Football here in the US. :)

Speaking of which, the new season starts next month. Go Lions!!!

Yeah, I'm honestly a Detroit Lions fan.

har! my name is mitul (not pronounced "me-too", although that is quite funny), born in 1986. my family is indian, my parents were born in mozambique while it was still Portugal and grew up between Moz. and India before permanently settling here.

my mother insisted that i learn english, so i went to an international school for 1st grade. this may not seem like much but it made ALL the difference - english is the language i learned to read and write in. then i went to a catholic school that was a less than 5 minute walk from home, but it was cool - teachers and priests didn't care what you believed in as long as you were respectful, but quite a few students there were complete assholes. i got beat up and made fun of for not being white and christian (i'm serious - in almost 2000 students, there were like 3 non-whites). i still made friends, obviously, but it's always annoying to see some tiny kid making fun of you. looking back i should've been a bit more aggressive back then and broken a few kneecaps, but hey. i stayed there from 2nd to 12th grade, and if the atmosphere there changes i'd like to put my kids in there as well.

two events that really changed me were my parents' deaths, when i was 7 and 16. that's why i'm not religious and why i seem a bit cold about death and loss in general sometimes.

i absolutely loved college. i made tons of friends, went to England on an exchange programme and generally had a great time. i'm now 2 exams short of finishing my degree in Management - something i knew i wanted probably since i was 10 or so. my dad and his brothers opened their own business when they came to Portugal and i want to do the same one day.

my two biggest interests are probably music and football. like the rest of my family, i support SL Benfica, and dream of seeing them raise the European Champions Cup one more time (we won in 1961 and 62, but then lost the next 5 finals we played!).

Hah!! Racism is everywhere, man. Even in a multiracial country like Malaysia, we face the same.

My primary school back in Kuala Lumpur was a Malay school, but we had a pretty decent number of Indians and the Malays dared not pick on us. There were a few who made fun of our dark skin but we didn't bother much cos we were in the elite classes while those morons were rotting in the not-so-elite classes. Dumbfucks.

Then when I moved to Seremban and attended the Methodist Anglo Chinese School, things were slightly better. We had a majority of Chinese and Indian population over the Malays but the Chinese were the predominant ones in numbers. I was in the elite class till I graduated and I least expected some of my Chinese classmates to be so backward in their thinking. And they actually come from English speaking families like I do! Being the only Indian in a class with 32 slitty eyed students didn't help much. I was always been made fun of just because I was different.

I was brought up not to differentiate people by their colour or creed and I'm glad my parents played their parts well. Another reason why I'm very colour blind is because there are a lot of interracial marriages in my family. I have aunts who are Chinese, English and Malay. So we're very much aware of each others' culture and we get along well. That's why I found it really hard to accept the mentality of my classmates back in school.

Anyway, after time passed by, I didn't bother much about the teasing. I got bored of it and grew numb whenever they teased. Anyway, just because you're fairer doesn't mean you're better looking. I'm Indian, and I have prettier eyes, a hairy-er chest and a longer dick than you Chinese!
