The Fountain

If this film crept any farther up its director's own arse some rather bizarre things would probably happen. I don't think that even its most rabid fanboys (and judging by IMDb, it seems to have a lot of them) understand all the weird mytholigical symbolism that Aronofsky threw into this one. It's still a rather fascinating film though, with great acting and stunning visual effects, unlike anything I've seen before. The message actually isn't that hard to figure out, but if you thought Crash or Babel were too self-indulgent, stay the hell away from this one.

Inside - A fucked up French movie. A woman is hell-bent on taking another woman's baby out of her. The characters in this film don't make it out too well.

Lady Vengeance
Is that the one with the scissors scene? If so, I saw ads for it all around Paris a year ago and had to look it up and was startled when I read exactly what happened; at least, the description made it seem really graphic.

@Jim Carrey: He was really good in the Truman Show.

@The Fountain: That was the most pretentious waste of a movie ever. I was so excited to see it expecting at least some linear plot line (don't ask me why with Aronofsky directing) and instead I get some pseudo sci-fi/fantasy bullshit that didn't amount to much at the end if you ask me.

The IMDB forums are a horror - stalkers and fascistic fans who won't tolerate a word said against their idols.

And The Fountain is a boring, rubbish film. Unless you need bright lights, bald men jumping up trees and stupid 'lovers-linked-across-history' storylines to have your nerdy, comic-reading hearts touched, in which case you'll love it. The rest of us are quite capable of thinking about life and death without all that.

Actually, I think Aronofsky's a very overrated director. Pi's the only film ever to give me a headache. Even Scanner Darkly fucked my eyes less.

 I forgot about 23, yeah it wasn't too bad, but it's forgettable.

Your opinion is fictional to me.

I don't understand why people hate on the more popular comedians so much (i.e. Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey). I personally think that if you don't think they're funny, you need to lighten up and remove the stick from your ass. But even if you don't think so, please don't waste our time criticizing them...they're obviously not meant to be taken seriously.

Not that you guys are really doing stuff like this. Just something that irks me...

Saw Blade Runner. Quite good and it must have been amazing when it came out, but for me it was just good, if pretty damn good.

for me the weirdest thing about the mainstream comedians who mostly make bad movies (i have them on at work sometimes, they're not awful but i'd never sit down and watch one myself) is that they can be good actors (Will Farrel in Stranger than Fiction, Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine, Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love), they just don't most of the time :\

So Batman is amazing. Drama, tragedy, action, some laughter, romance, love triangle just like any good Shakespearean play. Incredibly well done with a considerable number of epic feats.

Exactly. They'd rather churn out the populist shit, and fuck them for that.

Heatseeker, perhaps if they didn't make every film basically the same, and clearly just sleepwalk through them, then people would like them more. Just because someone's a comedian doesn't mean you're not allowed to call them out when they stop doing their job - ie, being funny.

Will Ferrel is good at what he does, so why change? If you don't like what he or other actors do, comedy or not, then don't watch. Get over yourselves.

I saw Batman Returns a couple of weeks ago and concluded while occasionally quite funny as a movie it more or less sucks. Tim Burton, I have concluded, is a complete fud.

Batman Begins, while not perfect, is my favourite superhero film. It took itself just_seriously_enough. I'm hoping for a lot from this new one.
