By the way, some fun trivia about Araya: In addition to being the vocalist for Slayer, he's also a farmer/rancher. And, when he's maintaining his farm/ranch, he'll listen to and sing along to country music so that he can keep his vocal cords going strong.

Hey Seinfeld, I used to think it's hard or near impossible to be metal and religious at the same time, but you've proven me wrong!

I think we've all learned some interesting things from this thread. :)

Same, I'm a Christian and I luvs methul.

wel i think that slayer-dicsiple should tell yuo differant! :dio:

Actually, it does tell me something different: It tells me Kerry King needs to learn how to write lyrics again.

Nonetheless, I'll admit that I like that song.

I was taking the piss to act like a n00b. Although, I like the lyrics.

The song's lyrics are lame but shouldn't Tom Araya be a bit more selective when singing those lyrics; he is basically telling less mature, more impressionable listeners than ourselves that God hates us all. If I was a Christian, I would try not to advertise that our prays won't be answered.

I heard that Tom has gone to Confession a lot for his lyrics with Slayer. Of course, one can only confess the same thing so many times before it's time that he stops doing what he constantly feels guilty about.

Kerry King is also notorious for being a real tyrant. Tom's vocally expressed his distaste for King's lyrics in songs like In The Name Of God. But King would always force him to sing them anyway. Sometimes I wonder why Tom doesn't just leave the band altogether. With his resume, he'd probably have no problem getting into another metal band. Plus, by now, he probably has enough money saved up that he could comfortably retire.

Because he knows that if he leaves the band he'll never ever recieve the same amount of attention he does now. Just look at Phil Anselmo- without Pantera, the media and most fans stop caring, and the only times he seems to be mentioned in any media articles at all are in relation to Dimebag.

And yes, King is a prick. He should also learn how to write a guitar solo.

All the Reign in Blood solos are pretty much indistinguishable, but I Slayer have some killer riffs. Also Phil Anselmo is far from unknown, Down are quite well known, they were in Metal Hammer one time.

Oh, I know that Down is a known band and that occasionally they might get a page or two in a metal magasine, and that they have fans; but Phil gets nowhere near the amount of attention he would get if Pantera still existed.

And sorry, Pete, but Slayer solos alternate between horrible and pretty bad. Sure, there are a few mediocre ones here and there, but mediocre isn't much of an accomplishment, especially when most of the other solos suck.

Whether or not that's true will never register for me, when I listen to Slayer it makes me feel fucking great, so I'll never listen in an unbiased way.

Can't be worse than Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit or Godsmack, Metallica's usual touring partners.

As far as I know, they only toured with those bands during Summer Sanitarium 2003 (ie. when they were touring in support of St. Anger).

The tour was called The Madly in Anger with You Tour? That's possibly the worst tour name ever. Except perhaps what Fred Durst named his tours.

First time visiting this site in a couple of months, and this looked like one of the better threads that i missed.

My name is Quinten C., I turned 18 this february and I will go to college next year, studying History( later on Archeology). I'll skip the first three years of my life, since the only exciting thing that happened was surgery when i was a week old. I live in Wakkerzeel, Belgium, a littly shit stain of a village near Werchter (where the festival Rock Werchter takes place). I have a brother who is 10 years older, and a 7 year older sister that my parents adopted. My hobbies are football, writing, listening to music and writing. My biggest 'talent' is/was football since i was offered numerous times to play for the youth teams of several big clubs, both in Europe as in Belgium, but i never accepted, due to lacking self-confidence and because i didn't think I could make a living of it. I'm a pretty pessimistic person, probably because I grew up in a family where my spouses were out of the house and my mother having to fight cancer for 7-8 years untill she died last year. I drink a lot, mainly because i always saw every family member doing so and because i just like drinking. However, because the troubles at home I started to drink too much and to my eternal shame, i started using hard drugs. Luckily i met new friends and my current girlfriend make me feel that good that I hardly ever feel the urge anymore to use any of the shit I have done in the past. I still drink frequently however. My life has taken a big turn since my mother died: I stopped playing football professionally, I graduated from high school(Latin-Languages), became uncle and from september on, I will live on my on in Leuven, the city where I will be attending college. This was the brief summary of my life so far..

He's a hillbilly at heart.

A Chilean hillbilly!!

About the post whether Araya should leave Slayer or not: I think not. He's the face of Slayer to many including me, although King is the founder and leader or the band. But if Slayer was Araya-less, it would be a totally new band.

On the other hand, he's garnered a reputation of being one of the best frontman Thrash or Metal has had. He could easily form a band of his own or join another big gun, and he would probably nail it. Refer to the 'Antichrist' track: Heck! If He had quit Slayer back in '92, he would have joined Judas Priest!

On the subject of his religious beliefs:
He did mention he was a staunch Catholic in one of his interviews and I believe he's just being open minded about religion when he's with Slayer, or at least to satisfy King.

It's all about his career. He knows that, if he quits Slayer, he might be putting his career on the line. ESPECIALLY if it's because he finds Kerry King's religious views to be too offensive for him to put up with (such a thing would completely go against the whole anti-establishment image of metal, so you can imagine a lot of fans would be pissed at him). And, of course, if he ruins his career as a metal musician, what else can he do? It's not like he has a medical degree or a lucrative resume beyond his work as a metal musician. He'd probably be unemployed, in serious financial trouble, have to deal with a lot of family problems, etc.
