wow... didn't think it would be scored that high.. I find that Evergrey is a love it or hate it-band. I can't stand anything they've done. Including this.

Glad to see they didn't continue the direction they were going with MMA.

I definitely enjoy this album much more than MMA. To me, Torn is more of a mix between Recreation Day and In Search of Truth... which is obviously a good thing. Also glad to see this band back on track.

Great album and great review. Definitely a huge step ahead of MMA.

For me personally this album currently suffers from being released (or rather leaked) right besides Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth (probably my album of the year) and Death Magnetic. I'm so excited and happy with those two albums that I haven't really given Torn a fair chance yet. I've given it two or three listens and I'm not completely sold on it yet, however I will give it a good listen in the near future.

These Scars is very memorable though, great track. Torn definitely beats Monday Morning Apocalypse. To be fair that's not saying much, I can't stand that album.

Great album. Evergrey isn't one of my top favs but they're solid, and always have been. Glad to see them releasing another good album.

I definitely understand that Evergrey is a love it or hate it band, and I do love them. At the same time I see how some might hate them. I'm okay with it :P

personally I think this is a great album and excellent review as well. Might be one of my albums of the year.

Me either because it went away form their dark progressive roots. If it was under say a project band from a band member then maybe it would have been decent but under the Evergrey banner it didn't appeal to me.

I just think its too boring. If your'e gonna play prog metal, you got to do it right. And IMO Evergrey has failed it ever since the decent solitude...

Well, I wouldn't call Evergrey flat-out prog metal.. maybe on the first two albums but even then, that's a stretch.. what defines prog metal, anyway? They do change tempos and use the occasional odd time-signature but does that make them prog? I would say they're more power metal with prog inclines. The prog roots show more on some albums than others (like Inner Circle, Recreation Day as opposed to In Search of Truth or Monday Morning Apocalypse).. but that's just me I guess..

So then, what would be prog metal? Well.. Dream Theater, Sun Caged, Threshold, Karnivool, DeadSoulTribe, Poverty's No Crime, Ice Age, Shadow Gallery... those are progressive metal.

But Evergrey, Pagan's Mind, Katagory V, Kenziner, Eldritch, Serenity and countless others... those are power metal with prog inclines.

But that's just my opinion... for whatever it's worth, anyway. :)

Threshold is very good, and you guys should check them out. Dead Reckoning, their latest effort is pretty damn solid. Shadow Gallery ain't that bad either.

As for Evergrey being prog or not. Maybe not, but they make several terrible attempts at it, and their power metal is dull as well.

Definitely check out the album Tyranny by Shadow Gallery. It's an incredible concept album with a story that'll pull you in deeper and deeper with each listen, the best thing about the album is that it doesn't rely on the story at all, it's all around amazing.

Apologies for the hijacking of this thread :P
