EDIT - lol, while putting The Blade Itself away in the closet, i found The Peleponnesian War, which me cousin lent me a few weeks ago. will try to pick it up, heard it's a heavy read.

You mean Thucydides? He's cool, and the Peloponnesian War is interesting, but go for Herodotus instead. There are gold digging giant ants! And lots of anecdotes about prostitutes!

The whole thing is like a parable about Christianity...Lewis was a Christian philosopher, that's all he did. Look at any of the other books he wrote, it's all nonfiction Christian stuff. And I know that some people on this forum might not enjoy that type of thing...

Aslan = Jesus, basically, but there's lots of more subtle stuff. Susan, becoming interested in "lipstick and parties" and stuff rather than wanting to travel to a magical land to fight evil - the last book's the worst for Christian preaching.

That's just the icing on an already gay cake.

Allright, I'll keep that in mind... Anyway, I don't really mind. Haven't looked at it from a christian point of view so far.

I've had that book on my shelf for years and never took the time to read it. As awesome as it sounds with the graphic disgusting descriptions, it can't be entirely made of those excerpts and it saddens me.

Now reading:
Michel Foucault - History of Sexuality: Part One (the only one not for school)
Plato - The Republic
David Hume - An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals

For classes, I'll have to read some more Plato, Aristotle, Rousseau, Hobbes, Kant, Nietzsche, Nozick, Alasdair McIntyre. Most of those are entire books. Three philosophy courses in one quarter is ridiculous.

The four and he who makes things worse - The End. The two previous books in this triology was so damn good I couldn't wait for this. It was kind of entertaining until the end, which was beyond horrible. Good God.

Inheritance - Brisingr. Yeah call me a fanboy, or say that this is a Lord of the rings copy. I don't care. Will start it tomorrow and got great expectations. Loved Eragon and Eldest.

I've read it, and it's a great book. Particularly if you're interested in sociology (it's basically about the unfair working class conditions of the early-1900's) and don't mind an obvious pro-socialism message at the end (which, given the circumstances at the time, was actually fairly understandable).

Finished American Gods, pretty good. Guessed the ending, though. Started Taking Liberties by Chris Atkins.

-I'd start with The Road, because it's his easiest to read book. i only vaguely understood what was going on in Blood Meridian and No Country For Old Men the first time i read them
-Guns Germs and Steel was really interesting and taught me lots of neat things, but it did feel like reading a school textbook. so be warned of that.

Ya, I felt like an idiot for not figuring out the ending. I knew it was a book about Norse gods yet I couldn't figure out who "Low Key Liesmith" was. Not my best moment.

Heh, I totally did a double-take when I got that. Are his other books as good? I think I saw another with Shadow in...?

well, Anansi Boys is awesome, Neverwhere is cool (it's based on a tv show, though). he co-wrote Good Omens with Terry Pratchett, that's one of my all-time favourites.

I think he has another short story with Shadow in the Legends anthology, but I'm not 100% sure about that. With Azrael, though, I recommend Anansi Boys (my favourite Gaiman book) and Good Omens. If you're into comics at all, you might also want to check out his Sandman series, which is considered to be one of the best comic works of all time- still, I bought the first trade and couldn't get into it.

Already read a few of the Sandmans, pretty good for comic books (much better than Watchmen! :P). I'll check Anansi Boys and Good Omens, although I think I've read the latter...

picked up My Name is Red.

3 other books caught my eye at the store:
- Greg Keyes - The Kingdoms of Thorne and Bone: apparently very ASoIaF-ish
- Georges Perec - "A Void" and "Life A User's Manual"

anyone here read these?

I'll be wrapping up The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy probably tomorrow. And then, in honor of Halloween, I will (finally) read Dracula.
