It's definitely not THE reason why people don't like them but in my opinion it's a factor. There are certainly other reasons to not like them.

Anyways, let's not try to take this thread in the direction that other went. I'll be getting the album sometime in the next few days and will post my thoughts.

I'm up and down when it comes to DragonForce. There are times when I am so in the modd for them and times when I'm not. That's the nature of the DF beast. If you're in the mood for something varied and substantive, it's not the right time for DF. DF time is when you're up for relentless speed and shredding, etc. There are a couple songs on each album that I really love, so I rarely put in a CD and just listen straight through. I admire Herman and Sam as players even though they often get too drunk to play well live. Still, even if it's not your thing, they do try some innovative things at times between the shredding, like Herman's video game sounds and such. You may not like it, but it's something other people aren't doing.

That all being said, I like the new album. It's more diverse than others, and they are growing without abandoning what they've always done. There are more songs here that I can sit through more often.

I was a bit suprised by the score so I decided to give the album a try and borrowed it from a friend.
I'd probably give it a 70/100, its not too bad but a decent average album in my opinion. It sounds a lot like their previous work and im pretty sure no one would be listening to this in a couple of months.

I like it and from the first listenings I would it rate higher than Inhuman Rampage. It needs sure some time to catch all the great moments, but there are many. The melodies are catchy, the speed is high as always...just awesome. Dragonforce are the Slayer of Power Metal.

Minus the awesomeness.

I wouldn't say that. Compared to Hammerfall or other standard Power Metal bands, they are more than awesome. I've never heard anything like that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju4IBY27ZSQ from Bands like Rage, Iced Earth, Brainstorm, Blind Guardian, Nevermore or Helloween. [At least not with that speed  ]

Are you honestly saying that DF are better than Rage, Hammerfall, Iced Earth, Nevermore, Helloween, Brainstorm and Blind Guardian? Wtf?

I myself would say that they're better than Rage, Hammerfall, Helloween, Brainstorm and Stratovarious, but not better than Iced Earth, Blind Guardian or Nevermore. 'Tis impossible.

dragonforce is boring.

it's great that they can play at 600 bpm and do fast-fast-fast guitar solos and sing about warriors and dragons and battle and sacrifice, really it is. Really.

noodles or whomever mentioned nickelback hit upon an excellent point: Dragonforce are basically the Nickelback of metal. Perhaps more technically skilled, but I could give a shit about how technically skilled a band is if they can't write a song that sounds different from the last 26 songs they wrote.

Of this list, I think DF is only better than Hammerfall.

About the album, it starts very well, the first 3 songs are the better ones, but after that all start to seem the same, becoming boring and too much long. Better than Inhuman Rampage, for sure, and at the level, moreless, than Sonic Firestorm, but worst than Valley of the Damned. 70 for me.

Not better, but different. More spectacular. Where the other Bands have normally 3-4 Minute Songs and sometimes 1 or 2 epic 8 min songs, Dragonforce have nearly only 7 minutes plus High Speed Power Tracks. Ok, the vocals can be annoying - I like lower, more aggressive singer like Peavy of Rage or Matt Barlow or Andy B. Franck - but from the musical side, it's very hard to compete for all the other listed bands. Even for Nevermore.

I'm liking the album a lot but I do like Inhuman Rampage a bit more.

85/100

I find myself referring to Dragonforce as the greatest caricature that metal has to offer. They've eclipsed Spinal Tap IMO.

Not on your fucking life are they better than Stratovarious or Helloween, and even Hammerfall have more variation than DF. Though I can listen to a couple of DF songs at a time, listening to a whole album does become a chore.

If you take Dragonforce seriously then yeah you're not going to like them because they aren't designed to be serious if they wanted to play in depth songs then they would have but they decided to play what they wanted to play and that is catchy fun not to serious speed metal.

They are like Hammerfall,Manowar and other cheese style of metal not designed to wow you with complex song structures and deep melodies that bands like Kamelot do.They are what I call fun metal the type where you just want to throw a CD like this in and unwind and have fun or maybe workout or just throw your fist in the air and scream.

I'm not a DF fanboy but I do like their music if I want something in depth I'll pop in say Nevermore's Politics Of Ecstasy or Kamelot's Black Halo album if I want something fun and not so serious than I'll pop in a DF album or a Hammerfall album.

I know, I do that with bands like Hammerfall as well, but the thing is that with DF, all the songs are interchangeable.
