No way... I need metal. I've been a big fan for about 8... Almost 9 years now, and it's still pretty much the only genre I listen to with a few exceptions. I'd go crazy without it.

Dunno what it is about metal, but I always want more and it always keeps me satisfied.

I can completely understand. That's how I've been for the majority of my life. I've been listening to metal for about 26 years straight. I was sucked in by JP and Maiden around 1982. I've had a long run. :)

Haha... Well... Maybe after 26 years I may have a change of heart. :P

I go through "dry spells" fairly often. Although I'm not really going through one right now (today, I listened to Accident Of Birth by Bruce Dickinson). I guess it depends on my specific mood. I tend to listen to metal more when I'm in an good or energetic mood, and I tend to listen to it less when I'm in a more depressed or laid-back mood.

I get in those moods too, but I usually find myself getting bored with a specific genre of metal as apposed to metal as a whole. That is why I love how diverse metal is. There are some days where I want something non-metal, but its rare. And even the stuff I listen to is borderline metal/heavy/classic rock type stuff.

Thats exactly how i feel, there is always something within the metal/rock genre that gets me in the mood.

About a month ago i was driving on the highway and i swear to god i couldnt find anything to listen to, so i browse through some old cds and found my copy of mandrake, i hadent heard it in a long time but dude i swear it was like listening to it for the first time again i think i hurt my throath from all the singing i did ("let the cut run deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!" ) man i love when that happens.

Sometimes, but it never generally lasts long. I never really get sick of genres as a whole, but rather just single bands/albums/songs.

Well I listen to a lot of different types of music but always metal predominantly. I guess at any given time I'll be listening to about 70% metal and 30% othr things. So I don't really go through bored patches because everything is always varied anyway.

But I definitely can empathise with the OP. Many cannot live on metal alone. Some can, though. Truly kings amongst men.

I don't really get when people listen to one genre of music and nothing else. Variety is the spice of life. I couldn't live without my Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies or Elliott Smith but I also couldn't live without Nile, Impaled, Slayer, or In Flames.

When I'm tired of listening to metal I listen to something else, then I get tired and listen to metal again. There's so many kinds of metal I can hardly get bored.

Never happened. If I go three days without metal I go into some kind of seizure.

Haha! That happened to me during my internship when my bosses banned metal at the office. I had to put up with their Arctic Monkeys for 5 months.

Anyway, yeah...I do get tired sometimes. More often than not when I'm kinda bored I dig up the old school hard rock stuff like Alice Cooper, Grateful Dead, Deep Purple and Rainbow to refresh myself on the roots.

I also listen to other genres at times for a certain period and when I listen back to my favourite metal bands/songs, the sense of appreciation is overwhelming! I'd just go "How the fuck could I have been bored of this shit?!"

Kings of Leon used to be cool, particularly on the first album, but every release has gotten worse and worse, and I just can't stomach the most recent one at all.

Arctic Monkeys....actually not too bad. I like 'em.
