sorry, yeah i was joking. i thought it would be kind of obvious that the two bands aren't really comparable at all. "iron maiden are better than any punk band" i just a pretty silly thing to say imo because they just don't have much if anything to do with punk.

i was listening to Enemies of Reality today and Jeff Loomis strikes me as a bit overrated. he can shred and write some great riffs, but his tone isn't very good - it's got that Meshuggahy mechanized feel to it but it's murky instead of sharp - and some of his solos are just kind of lazy (the one in "I, Voyager" for example)

actually, i can't think of any 7 or 8 string guitarists who i really enjoy listening to. for Meshuggah it fits their music well, but it's not exactly pleasant.

I think you're stretching for attention now. Come on, Loomis??? I'd say he is pretty damn underrated, and he gets a lot of recognition.

I agree about his tone... But he is a damn skilled guitarist, if you like it or not.

Am I the only one finding Amon Amarth completely average? Bough their two first full-lenghts today, and I'm not impressed so far.

Not at all.

It has everything to do with knowing the eventuality of that outcome, that religion will become inconsequential over time.

Compare the world's history as it relates to religion and it is clear that never has religion been more irrelevant than it is now. Sure, An argument could be made that fanatics are more powerful, but only because weapons are more powerful. Even in Iran their words are meaning less and less.

Anton LaVey anticipated religions end sooner than it is happening. Its really that cut and dry.

Satanists are not anti-christian (that's black metal your thinking of)

Satanists are anti-faith in any form.

Figure out the rest for yourself, the info is out there, so go find it.

Well i didnt know that. It seems Satanism is not so bad after all, if it is like you describe.

There's another Jihad at our doorstep and you claim religion has never been weaker?

A jihad! Where?

Amon Amarth grow on you. Get drunk and pretend you're a Viking.

About Jeff Loomis, none of his guitar work on Dead Heart in a Dead World has struck me as amazing or even above average, but This Godless Endeavor is pretty much equivalent in technicality to the shredmasters (Malmsteen, Petrucci, etc.). I think there's something I'm missing on DHIADW because everyone says it's amazing, but it just seems like really basic riff-chorus-riff-chorus-solo-riff stuff with riffs and solos that aren't good enough to make up for it. This Godless Endeavor, different story, but yeah.

I never thought of Jeff Loomis as anything in particular before I heard his solo stuff.. Nevermore is and will always be mediocre to me.

That's crazy, I'm still trying to find something as good and consistent as Nevermore, they're amazing.

Speaking of Jeffs, I was listening to Bloodbath this morning and I had an awesome thought: Jeff Walker fronting Bloodbath.

Correct.

I can't be legally murdered for expressing interest in Black Magic.

There's ALWAYS a jihad anyway and I couldn't care less how offensive anything is to muslims. They don't understand that the laws of the US supercede their religion in every case.

Something's slightly off about this post, but I can't put my finger on it...

Well, I don't live in Europe, so I couldn't say that in my situation. And yes I'm quite aware of the situation in Europe where certain, not all mind you, muslims believe their holy book IS the law. Sorry, that is not true. The soveirgn laws of a country are the rules, not religious dogma.
