This is some news for me! I consider Candlemass one of the greatest and most influential bands in metal, and I used to listen a lot to them in the begining of the 90's, but I lost interest in them after Marcolin left, and especially after they put out Dactylis Glormerata and From The 13th Sun, which I found extremely boring. I didn't even know Messia Marcolin was back in the band, until I read this review... I can't wait to get a hold of this album.

I downloaded the promo version a few weeks ago and I can back up this review in full.. one thing that the review did miss was the fact there are a lot of long songs, given time to breath and sink in.. and also, Messiah does swear occasionally which seemed somewhat out of place, but not enough to distract from the songs. One problem I often have with the doomy heavy metal bands is that they sound dated, but the production here is great and the drummer occasionally double-pedals (!) through a link.

My favourite track was Assassin of Light, but all ten are great.

Plain Doom Metal like Candlemass is pretty boring IMO... Still candlemass is one of the better Doom Metal bands out there! Oh and the cover for this album looks rather boring...

I find it elegant in its simplicity.

I've always liked the album covers with the Renaissance like artwork....."Nightfall" and "Ancient Dreams".......something very religious and heavenly about them.

Let's not forget that the almighty SOLITUDE AETURNUS are releasing "Alone" soon! CANDLEMASS and SOLITUDE AETURNUS are the top 2 doom metal bands of all time (I think, anyway).

Yeah, that's my opinion as well. Too bad Solitude Aeturnus never really got the acknoledgement they deserve. They always seemed to me very much underground and I doubt they made any money out of their music. I remember that on Downfall, which was their 4th album and an absolute masterpiece, Count Lyle played on a borrowed bass...
I haven't heard anything from them since Adagio (1999) and I really thought they disbanded by now. Interesting news with this Alone album. It seems this will be a great year for doom metal. Now if Tristitia will put out something...

Well, they haven't released anything since Adagio. They did re-release Into The Depth Of Sorrow and Beyond The Crimson Horizon with some bonus tracks, but that's all. Alone will be their first album since Adagio. Go to http://www.eternalsolitude.com to listen to some of the new demos, and there's a full length demo from Robert's side project CONCEPT OF GOD. They're going to release that CD this year, as well.

Anyway, I don't think they've made any money at all, really. That's why their albums are so few and far between. It's sad, really. The guys in SA have families and everything so they can't really pack up and tour and whatnot. They don't have the money to get into a studio on a regular basis. It sucks. These guys are too good!

I hope someday they get the masters for Downfall back and are able to remix and remaster it. That producer jacked that album up. Such a good album and such a thin sound compared to everything else the band has released!

Anyway, check out the new tunes. They kick ass.

Awesome CD. Bang on with the score. Messiah is one of my favorite vocalist and he sounds great here. What I like is they didn't do a whole lot of the slow doom that they've sometimes done in the past. It's more in the vein of something like Memory Garden which has more moments of up tempo head banging goodness. Speaking of which, what the hell ever happened to Memory Garden... Anyway, great "come back" release that takes their old sound and offers it in a fresh, superbly produced manner.

Yes, Solitude Aeternus is awesome. Days Of Prayer is one my favorite songs of all time and Rob Lowe is another great singer. Can't wait to hear new material from them.

Robert Lowe is one of the best metal vocalists ever! I mean, he's up there with Dio and shit! I don't care what anyone says! He may not be as famous, but he's just as good.

Have you guys heard their version of Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name?" What a cover! It blows the original away!

Yes, I have. He also does an awesome cover of Dio's Shame On The Night.

Yep, and they covered Ozzy's "No More Tears" and Sabbath's "Heaven And Hell." They also covered Candlemass with "Well of Souls" for a tribute CD.

My good man, you are due a Candlemass back album extravaganza. If you like this, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus and any of the Messiah Marcolin records are safe bets. I could give you plenty more recommendations for this genre if you like.

Yes, good choice. Solitude Aeturnus is doom asskickery at its almost finest.
