Both funny movies but SotD is slightly overrated... not as good as other zombie-comedies such as Braindead/Dead Alive or Return of the Living Dead.

I loved Shaun of the Dead and was kind of bored with Hot Fuzz. Then again, I've seen like three zombie-films in my life, so that part doesn't really matter to me. Hot Fuzz just felt like they took a funny concept and went "look, we're making fun of stuff, it's so funny, look at all the silly editing, ha ha.

Watched Do the Right Thing, a Spike Lee joint. I thought it was pretty good. It kinda satirized both sides of racial conflict, with the racist pizza shop worker (lol) as well as the militant black activist, portraying them both in a more 'wonky' light. The racist overtones are a little heavy handed at times (near the end, a bunch of black rioters are accidentally sprayed with a water hose). It's as if Spike Lee was like: "Hey, THIS IS RACISM! HERE, CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IMAGERY IF YOU DIDN'T PICK UP ON IT!" Even the cops and the cars they use seem more vintage than they should have been at the time. Other than that I enjoyed the movie.

Double-awesome. Do the Right Thing is classic. Great summer film.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is probably my favourite from the Apatow crowd. I didn't like Mila Kunis until I saw this film, it's awesome...

...and that's the double-truth, Ruth.

Barton Fink - i really enjoyed the idealistic writer struggling in Holywood thing and general surrealism but the ending felt like they couldn't figure out how to make the story climax.

I've never enjoyed Apatow... He thinks a movie reference is someone standing around talking about the movie... ie when they talk about munich in knocked up... imo sounds so forced and out of place.

That's a trick from the Kevin Smith book of comedy innit?

Yeah, I guess. Apatow's films have much more Hollywood-feeling than Smith's. That's why I prefer Smith, his dialogue is much more believable than that of the Apatow guys. Which is kind of weird, because they did a shitload of improv on Knocked Up, and I'm sure they did on the other films as well.

i don't think that Smith's dialogue is at all believable, at least i've never heard that combination of arguing and wittiness, it is hilarious though. i like his and Apatow's movies a lot

I just thought that the point of Smith and Apatow's films is that it's supposed to be like real life... just normal people talking shit about movies...

But it completely falls flat for me since it sounds forced... although I like Smith better than Apatow.

Meh. As far as goofy zombie movies go, this one wasn't really that special. The minibike was the best thing ever, though.

Mongol - Liked it. Zad the scenery was great, the acting... not so much. However, it is difficult to judge when the dialogue is in another language. Still, good movie. 7/10.

The plot was a bit hard to follow, wasn't it? Looking back, that might have been because I fell asleep at one point.

Last night: The Band's Visit. Cute Israeli film about an Egyptian police band stranded in a little town. Disappointingly, not the cue for a olde-Arnie style bloodbath, but a good film anyways.

re-watched Sweeney Todd.
Still so good.

also.

TWILIGHT TONIGHT!!!!!!!!

edit:

SAW TWILIGHT!!!!

So I knew it was going to suck, and it didn't disappoint. But it wasn't absolutely the worst thing ever. I mean, the book is much better. But character wise, they got everything spot on, which is awesome.
It was SOOOOOO cheesy. Not as adorable and romantic as the book, though.
It was really witty, but they should probably work on the parts that need to be serious for the next movie. Everyone bursted out laughing at the more serious parts.
but I am not ashamed to say that I was one of the girls to squeel when Edward (Robert Pattinson) made his first appearance.
