I've been thinking of seeing that one for a while, but so far I've been reluctant because I hate Swedish films, they're terrible.

Ok, so I just finished watching it. Had to see what the big deal was.

I loved it, there's not a lot I can say about it that wasn't already said in the review, except that it's very much unlike any Swedish film I've seen (except for maybe a Bergman film.) Very raw and genuine, it's one of those films that you want to keep going for an extra hour, at least that's how I felt.

I think the story in that film is better then "The Dark Knight". I saw the latter in the theaters, but sometimes I can't manage to make up my mind about a movie in cinema. Have to see it when it comes out. If it hadn't been for the performance of Heath Ledger, it would have been a bit boring IMO. I also think the film was hyped a bit too much, as the expectations were sky-high, at least for me.

Watched "Pearl Harbor" yesterday. Good movie and well thought through. Not very big fan of Ben Affleck but he's ok. The Michael Bay/Jerry Bruckheimer team always make great action movies.

Hehe, here we go again. So... you aren't any fan of the Bruckheimer films? Shame on you! :D Yeah, I know the movies are a bit cliche, but I haven't seen much Action lately that can top "Armageddon" or "The Rock". The movie "Face/Off" is also a GREAT film, falling in the category "best action".

Haven't seen "Commando", but watched "Die Hard" a long time ago. Can't remember if it was good. The film number 4 was okay, nothing special (good action-packed scenes though).

If you liked Face/Off check out earlier Woo films. Hard Boiled, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow. And watch Commando.

Bruckheimer's a goddamn hack. Watch Commando, watch old-school action, not this newfangled, Aerosmith-soundtracked, shite.

I love The Rock and Face/Off, but seriously man, get a fucking clue.

Watching Pearl Harbor is like sucking your own dick, it feels good, but you're gonna feel like a dirty, dirty whore.

What you need to do is look for those films that don't make you feel like you've been skullfucked. Try something more mature like L.A Confidential. Or even a cheap thrill like Crank. Good action films don't have gay love-stories in them. They're made with passion, unlike Michael Bay films where every scene is strategically thought out to moisten up teenage girls and keep the kids with ADD in their seats.

Man, IMO you couldn't be more wrong. Yeah sure, they are easy in terms of story but they are entertaining. That's what it's all about. I like many kinds of action movies. I also have a thing for more complicated Thrillers ("The Prestige", "Number 23", "A Beautiful Mind") In many ways, I feel those kind of action movies like "The Rock", "Face/Off" or "Armageddon" have something epic in them, and it's just supposed to be entertaining. Today I feel many movie-makers try too hard in making a film interesting. M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening" is an excellent example in that case. Trying too hard, could have suceeded, but come off as unfocused and not well thought through. But out of recent action I liked "Shoot 'Em Up" and "Deja Vu" very well. Sometimes the more mature stories in a movie is not needed (for me). But that is not to say I don't enjoy other genres or films...

BTW, I don't think I would like to watch action movies with gay love-stories... So at least we have one thing in common.

I pity you for having experienced something THAT disgusting.
But on the other hand, didn't quite get your meaning. Does that mean you liked "Pearl harbor" after all? But you felt like a dirty, dirty whore? Can't say that I shared quite the same emotions as you did...

The one basic problem is that you only seem to watch the Hollywood blockbusters, comparing them to each other is pointless because they're all the same film. They seem to have this formula on how to create a money-maker, and they always follow it. There's no soul in it, and you'll realise this the more films you see. Films that tickle your balls are fun for a while, but you'll start appreciating the more artistic stuff, the stuff that tickles your brain.

A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures are a must, assuming you haven't already seen them. We Anglanders make a lot of comedies and most get forgotten about very quickly... a recent good one was Death At A Funeral. I'll post moar if/when I think of them.
