So last night I managed to finish both horde and the campaign of Gears of War 2 with a friend. It was awesome, especially the Brumak bit :D

Was bloody funny with horde, we got down to one enemy, that was a Theron guard. We decided to be all cool to finish off, so we both grabbed a mulcher and headed out. The bastard hit my friend from across the map and blew him into chunks. I was firing like mad at it and just before it got cut to shreds it managed to get a shot in and killed me. Even though I died after it we still had to do it all again

You mean you finished all 50 levels with just your friend? Impressive. I played horde the other day, and everyone quit after round 1 except me and one other guy. We got to level 22 and I felt pretty good about that. Guess I shouldn't!

I did all 50 levels with just me and one friend. Now i'm redoing Horde with a couple other friends on Insane. It truely is insane.

Halo? Halo 2? Halo 3?

It is one of the most overrated game series ever. But it also one of the most overratedely hated games ever.

The first one, I think. I generally can see what makes older games good, but this was just dull. Maybe if I played it before Crysis I'd be impressed. Are 2 and 3 significant improvements?

I never liked Halo, even when I played it the first time when it just came out on the XBOX.

I think Halo 2 is the best one of the 3. When I was in high school on my spare I brought a tv to school, me and 7 other friends (second tv, xbox and link cable) played Halo 2 all spare and during our lunch break. That was some of the most fun I have ever had playing games.

So when are we going to have this awesome group action we all seemed to have planned? Whenever I'm online it looks like you two are offline

Is Deus Ex 2 worth bothering with? Played the original more than any other game I think, and might as well check it out before the third comes trundling along.

On a related note, finally got around to acquiring System Shock 2. Can't wait to give that a go...

Heh, same here. I'm on pretty much every weeknight about 9PM-11PM my time (GMT-5:00), and sporadicly on the weekends. I think the time zone differences are the problem.

I wouldn't bother with Deus Ex 2, but you probably should try it just so you don't have to wonder why it's such a shitty game.

System Shock 2 is one of the most thrilling and intense games I have ever played, even with its shitty graphics it has this amazingly rich atmosphere created through good pacing and an amazing script. Most of the people I have recommended the game to have hated it because of how the story is presented (through logs, just like in Bioshock.) I know you're a veteran FPS player though, so I'm sure you'll love it. You just have to overlook some minor flaws.

Don't forget to check out the fan-made texture packs for SS2, they make the game look much better. I never used them, but I've heard they're amazing.

I've already got the character model one (Rebirth, I think it's called, google imaged it, quite the improvement) and I'll be looking for the textures one.

I finished the original Halo just last summer. I agree that it's a little overrated, but I still had a ton of fun with it. It's still probably the most cinematic FPS I've ever played. One thing I don't understand, though, is its M rating. There's very little blood/gore in the game (you aren't even killing human beings), and even the language isn't any worse than what you'd hear in a PG-13 movie. It really should've been rated T instead IMO.

Anyway, I downloaded the Banjo-Kazooie remake on XBLA this morning. Going to play it sometime this afternoon. This will definitely bring back some fond memories. Memories of a time when games were actually GAMES and not wannabe Hollywood Blockbusters.

I tried playing the demo for System Shock 2, but it didn't work on my Windows XP computer. Does the Rebirth mod remedy this?

Aww, they have Banjoo Kazooie for download on XBLA and not Wii's Virtual Console? Bastards... I would love to play that game again.

It crashed after two minutes on my Vista 64 system. After a bit of net research, it turns out that SS won't work for anything past 98 unless you spend hours downloading many, many patches. So no SS action.

I ran it on XP without a single crash or error, and without patching at all.

Actually, I'm kind of glad it's on XBLA. Because now you can play it in HD with much sharper graphics and without all the blurriness/fuzziness of the N64 version. The X-Box 360 controller also works better for this type of game than the N64 controller. Although, may be it's just my imagination, but it does seem a bit slower than the N64 version (though that may be just because I've played Banjo-Tooie - which, despite its jumpy framerates, is faster than BK).

Anyway, I'm not going to lie: The game is a bit dated. And, being that I've already played through and beaten it on the N64 (albeit almost nine years ago), most of it is pretty familiar to me. Some new jiggies and puzzles, or may be even a new world or two, definitely would've been nice. It's still a great game nonetheless. And IMO well worth the download particularly if you're like me and prefer the games during the N64/PSX era over the games during this era.

Tried it, and it actually worked even worse. I should probably mention, though, that I'm talking about the demo for the game (which I can't patch or modify).

I used to own Deus EX, but it would always crash on my old XP computer. I may purchase it off Steam sometime.
