This movie suprised the hell out of me. I loved it. 8/10.

I loved that one. The part where Farrell karate-chops the midget is hysterical.

yeah, I really dug that film too. Although I felt the ending was slightly contrived.

From what I've seen in trailers, the new one appears to be more of an action film. I can't imagine it being nearly as good as the original.

Nowhere near as good as the original but hopefully interesting. Leave it to Hollywood to take a classic and add graphics and action to fuck it all up.

Hollywood needs to learn that less is more  Can they ever fucking restrain themselves with overblown visuals?

I seriously don't get it when people complain about too much special effects. What, would you rather have puppets like in the 50's? Yes, it's not necessary in every movie and most movies don't have special effects. But in a sci-fi movie like TDTESS it's damn cool.

just my 2 cents

p.s. stop complaining that it's being remade.

Replacing a good plot or storytelling with visual effects is what Hollywood does. The switch appeals to people who don't pay attention to storytelling.

I don't care if it's remade and this one does look good. But if they change the storyline from a pacifist alien who wants to save us from ourselves to a judgmental alien who wants to annihilate us I'm going to be pissed that they aren't staying true to the original's greatness. I even like some remakes like the Night of the Living Dead remake and others.

But what's the point of doing a remake if you're just going to do the exact same thing? It's like bands who cover the songs but play it just like the original, except not as good. If it's different, it can stand on its own.

Having said that, the original might be better for all I know. I've never seen it. I just know that I can't watch a lot of old movies because they're so damn cheesy, whether from special effects or otherwise.

I think this movie looks good and I'm definetely going to watch it.

By the way, I have a question: Can somebody tell me if any of these movies are good? They are on my want-list so before I go out and buy anything, I just thought I should ask. :)

12 Monkeys
30 Days Of Night
A Perfect Murder
Altered
The Air I Breathe
American Gangsters
Cleaner
Dead Silence
Deception
The Eye
Gone Baby Gone
The Jackal
Lions For Lambs
Memento
The Orphanage
Sleuth
Traffic
U.S Marshals
Windchill
We Own The Night

That's quite the list.

I would watch 12 Monkeys, Gone Baby Gone, Memento and Traffic.

I think most people would tell you that Memento is one of the best thrillers ever.

There is no point in doing remakes. Also, you don't find today's action films cheesy? I mean come on. The most recent one I saw was Wanted, it made me physically sick. "Oooh, fancy cars spinning around in the air in slow-motion" Uugh.

i don't think there's anything wrong with modernizing old movies it's just usually not done very well and people glorify the originals, so remakes are destined to failure.

I have heard good things about it never really came up for me to buy. But since it's Christopher Nolan directing this film, It's gotta be good. :)

Sleuth is pretty good as well. Amazing performances of Michael Cain.
