I've heard demo tracksfor Catcher n the Rye. That song, while not sounding at all like a GNR song actually is quite good. Shackler's Revenge, however, is complete crap. Sounds like Axl wants to be in Powerman 5000. Hope the whole album isnt this modern nu metal crap.

After many listening sessions, I'm still amazed how good it is. It's IMO the best Hard Rock album since Get a Grip from Aerosmith, and even Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver and Def Leppard and AC/DC (all since 1993) can't compete.

My favourite Tracks so far:

-There was a Time
-Shackler's Revenge
-Chinese Democracy
-Better
-Street of Dreams
-Catcher in the Rye
-Riad N' Bedouins

This reminds me of the time I was talking to a crazy man at a bus stop. He thought he had a Chinese baby in his head that told him what to do.

I only heard the title track so far but it makes me want to eat my own ears.

I knew they'd try and reinvent Nu Metal and start that whole barrel of shite up again. Axl Rose is the enemy of Metal.

And what is with that title? Is it trying to subtly convey to us through irony that China is not a democracy? Thanks for the tip, Axl.

Then you've got luck, because Chinese Democracy is still Hard Rock and no metal. Besides of some metal sounding riffs, it still rocks and sometimes, it sounds like what the new Queen should have. And also without Slash, the guitar work is fantastic.

Wait, is that BECAUSE of Slash's absence, or DESPITE of it?

Despite. And maybe because, because Slash never playes such crazy soli like on Shackler's Revenge or Riad n Beduins. Whereas there are many classic Slash soli too. What I'm missing are more clear sharp slash riffs. Sometimes the guitars are too distorted and too nu/industrial like.

The guitar work is [mostly] fantastic, but sometimes the guitars are too distorted and too nu/industrial like. :P

It's not that the guitars are sounding always the same (like on Appetite or Use Your Illusion). Actually nearly every song has a different guitar sound. Only few are sounding the same.

Maybe the title is a hint how the democracy was handled in the band before the split.

I listened to the album a couple weeks ago. Ehhhh, not bad but nothing I'd rush out and buy either. Stick to Appetite For Destruction if you want to hear Axl at his absolute finest.
