srsly, though, there are a lot of games you can't change the outcomes to. Even if you can get a different ending, you only do so by fulfilling a few shallow criteria, so that's a dumb thing to complain about.

And you can't expect big action from a Final Fantasy game, because that's not what you play it for. If you want big action, play Tekken or something, which I could say is "utterly bollocks" as well, because all you do is memorize useless combos and mash buttons. And the random encounters can be a bit annoying, but they're a neccesary evil. How else are you gonna level up? There's nothing god awful about that.

I can play through them because I love them. Like I said, it's not at all about big action, it's a lot more about a gripping story, likeable characters, and that "epic sense" than anything. I just get wrapped up in them more than most other games I've played. So far I've beat I, II, VII, IX, and X, and I'm working on IV, VI, and VIII... I've got V and III... so I can play through pretty much all of them... at least all the ones I want to.

Also, Nobuo Uematsu is amazing. He's a bona fide musical hero of mine.

Your point might be valid if the stories from the early Final Fantasy stories weren't amazingly cheesy...or at the very least, not gripping. Granted, the earliest FF I've played is FFVII but even that game's story was not enough to make playing it the least bit fun. Same goes for Chrono Trigger, although I suppose that might be fun on a portable console a la Pokemon.

I've loved all the FFs I've played so far. Like I said, the games aren't for everyone, but I'd much rather play any given Final Fantasy over Halo 3 any day.

Woho! My be-a-pro player scored the sudden death goal in Stanley Cup finals and won it all! Close call that one.

Yeah well I swept the Buffalo Sabres in the conference semi-finals. Now I face the Hurricanes, a team which I have manhandled all season long. Should be fun. Only 8 more wins until the big prize...

Serisously, try FFVI. It's fucking awesome. The PS1 games can't hold a candle to it.

Fave game atm has to be Mass Effect. Hate the AI though. Those big hunchbacked krogan bastards either stay far away or they run at you, and they're impossible to take down up close. That's what I get for putting all my upgrade points into assault rifle and sniper rifle and ignoring the shotgun, I guess.

So i got GTA IV for the PC and it runs like shit, the games got huge memory leak problems... Wtf i get the same FPS 800x600 and 1280x720... Plus it relies too much on the cpu so if you don't have a quadcore your basically fucked... Going to try and edit some stuff but i dont think it will help much. It's really gay since the game has mediocre graphics compared to the stuff thats coming out lately, really doesnt justify the shit performance 80% of the gamers are experiencing.

I'm holding off getting it for exactly that reason. Mine's only a dualcore, bloody budget constraints! Yet all the other PC GTA games post GTA 3 have had problems, so maybe it's worth hanging on, see if a patch has been released.

Assassins Creed is great.. Ain't done yet, but it tends to get a little similar in places. Sort of the same stuff over and over again. Still very entertaining though. Cool combat moves, and great surroundings.

I can confirm what Dago said. I didn't have any problems with Crysis on high, but GTA was almost unplayable if I left some options on. Shit sucks. Still, it was one of the best games I've ever played.

Ordered GTA San Andreas earlier today; that should keep me going until the price for GTA4 drops.

Interesting piracy discussion, started by a small developer's rant: http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk ... hp?t=42663

I am probably behind all you guys so I am only just getting round to playing Rome: Total War. Enjoying it a lot, after at first finding it harder to get into than Medieval. Don't think my system would support MTWII, though.

Does anybody know if this "Total Realism" mod is worth downloading? Just ordered the Barbarian Invasion expansion and waiting for that to arrive.

I must admit, I never bothered with the Total War series after trying the demo for Medieval and being totally flummoxed. That's what you get for being used to Red Alert and Tiberian Sun, I suppose. Made up for it since with my love for Civ, so maybe I should try R:TW.

Bah, never got into those series of RTS games. As long as I have Company of Heroes i am a happy man. By far the best RTS ever released.

I recommend downloading Total Realism when you're a bit bored with the original game or if you think it's missing something. Btw, Barbarion Invasion is a nice expansion, even more if you like the slight change of Classical Age to Medieval times.

Cheers, I'll probably play for a while with the expansion before considering the mod. I like the idea of expanding the map towards India etc., and I also like that it apparently makes the battles harder. At the moment I've been playing battles on Hard difficulty but already it seems as if the AI only has a limited number of ideas that you can easily get to grips with.

Well, I haven't been a very serious computer gamer for a long, long time (since the days of Champ Manager 98, even!), but the Total War series really got me hooked... I often used to fantasize (not sexually....) about what a game would be like if it had a RISK style strategy mechanism, combined with a Dark Omen style battle scene thingy... and total war has plenty of historical (if somewhat innacurate) geekery thrown in as well, so it is heaven for me.

IMO, I never played a more boring GTA. I really don't know how so many people voted it best of 2008, when the likes of MGS4, Fallout 3 and (from what I've seen) Gears of War 2 are way better. For me the areas of Liberty City in IV where very samey, very unlike the variety in San Andreas.

Also Niko is a fucking boring character, though I played through the entire story and I must admit, there were some really funny parts, though I still preferred the SA and VC stories. Finally, this GTA must have hands down the worst radio stations in terms of the music ones.

The only enjoyable thing in this game for me was the hilarious TV channels and talk show radio stations, which were probably the best ones so far.

+1, I never got into the Rome: Total War series, but that's because I hate the idea of not having a base and not being able to replenish your troups if you fuck up an offensive.

Eh.. you have several cities which can supply troops. The only big difference is, that one lost battle can have serious consequences. I love R:TW but hell i'm a history buff.
