We won comfortably last night against the worst team in the league. The fact that scares me is that we're not far of the Islanders standard on our worst night. Both Buffalo and the Kittens lost too, so that's good for us. I'm not convinced that we're back on track until we smash Tampa Bay at home tonight.

And for goodness sake Maurice. IF you scratch Sutter again I will be mad. He's our best penalty killer and was sorely missed last night. I also hope to see Leighton in goal tonight, as Cam definitely needs a break. He let in two softies last night, and has let in 15 pucks on the last three home games. Not entirely his fault of course, but Leighton proved to be a crucial factor in the against San Jose, and it would be great to watch him tonight.

GO CANES!

REPORT: ALLEGED CRIMINAL LINKED TO MEMBERS OF CANADIENS

As many problems as the Canadiens have had on the ice lately, they potentially have a greater one off the ice.

A suspect arrested last week in a police operation targeting organized crime is an acquaintance of Montreal Canadiens players Andrei and Sergei Kostitsyn and Roman Hamrlik, according to a report in Friday's La Presse.

The police reportedly recorded conversations between the arrested man, Pasquale Mangiola, and at least two of the players. La Presse adds that the three Canadiens stars are not suspected of any criminal activity.

Pasquale was arrested on charges of drug trafficking last Thursday as part of an operation called ‘Project Axe.'

The news is the latest distraction for a team that finished 1-4-1 on a crucial road trip and is in danger of missing the playoffs.

What do you have to say about this Brahm'o?

That is, until they ran into the unstoppable force known as The Hawks! :P

All kidding aside, I really think the Hawks have the talent to make a long run in the playoffs, but I wonder how much their complete lack of experience will hurt them.

Do they have enough grit to make it far though? Talent and skill can only take you so far...

Carey Price is still young and developing. He can't do everything and is not the second coming of Christ as most Habs fans thought he was.

Or something along those lines. :P

That's exactly what I'm wondering. I think if they all take their cue from Toews, which they should since he's their captain, they can grind it out. He's a tough kid.

That's 'cause he is Canadian.

But I think a good centremen and a defensemen like Brandon Witt would pretty much put you guys over the top.

Yeah, they could use another center, that's for sure. I like the defense they have now, though. Perfect combination of standard D guys and offensive minded ones like Campbell. There really isn't a whole lot I would change with the Hawks right now.

At the beginning of the season, I would have told you they needed more firepower, but with the way Versteeg and Bolland have come along, and paper mache Havlat somehow keeping healthy all year, scoring isn't much of a problem.

I was reading that the Sedins, Burrows and Ohlund are all having their contracts running out. i know he's been with the team for ages but i kinda hope they ditch Ohlund because Burrows has been getting better with each year and so far he's been awesome playing with the Sedins.

Weird shit, and definitely not what the team needed on top of everything else in this slump of ours (though 5-3 win today, with Kovalev getting a 3 point game, yes!!!!). But really, if there are no criminal charges against any of the Habs players, then this whole thing is just more media craziness; really, the Montreal sports press has way too much time on their hands. Last week there was a big shitstorm because Price was caught (gasp!) drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette- as if any 21 year olds don't do those things. And this is similar; making a big story out of something quite small. Unfortunately, it's what happens when Montreal slumps, and it just causes more problems.

Yea we had a BAD day against the Hawks. But really, we just shut out the Bruins and Vokoun had 40 saves. It was great to see a big night like that right after a bad loss.

pretty intense game with the stickless breakaway, Burrows' deflection at the end, the overtime, and Sunding winning the shootout

So, we're oni a streak, yay! Beat Colorado for the first time since 1996 today, which was great. Our second line is continuing to show up in every game, and Whitney gets four points, Cullen a hat-trick and exceeds 50 points while LaRose again proves that he may be a C once. Good game, lots of pphysical display in the first. Lets keep this up.

On the other hand, we've won three. That's our mental limit on wins in a row. I bet we're gonna lose in Ottawwa. They've been much better lately too.

Wow, since 1996? That's insane...

In other news, boo Carolina. Stop getting so close to the Habs in points. That is all.

Well Sundin is a douche bag.

But that reception he got was nice, so nice he started to cry.

Then he decides to play like a perimetre player all night until the shootout. And I must say I am glad we got rid of Welwood...

Then tonight we played a rare Sunday night game, we usually have 1 a season. It was a pretty boring game against the Rangers both Lundqvist and Toskala were huge, Toskala even more so with his 39 save performance. No goals until the 3rd where 4 goals were scored between the 2 teams. John Mitchell seems to like playing against the Rags. Kubina and Stempniak both had 3 point games, which is nice espeicially for Lee.

Can't wait to get Kaberle back and to see Pogge play another game.

Trade deadline only 2 weeks away!

Habs sucks, Sens suck, Rags suck, and yeah GO LEAFS NO!?

So, the Panthers are almost out of this evil gauntlet that the schedule guy decided to subject us to. We've made out pretty well, recently beating the Rangers, Bruins, and Devils to name a few.

Walnut, 2 questions.

1, Are there any big trade rumors???

2, Who are the rags. I'm assuming they're either the Canucks or Flamers.

1. There are big trade rumors almost every other day. Some involving Jay-Bo, Vinny, T.Kaberle, Avery, Antropov, etc etc etc. Any hockey site could get you your fill of hockey trade rumors. I am a member of a site called hockey buzz, the rumors are pretty bad most of the time but the hockey discussion is awesome.

www.hockeybuzz.com , bet you can't guess which poster I am...

2. Rags = Rangers, Rangers = New York Rangers. you know that team fron the city that tries to buy championships every year instead of winning it by good drafting and player development.
They throw so much money around that their coach got fired today.

Goodbye Tom Renney, even though the Rags faults were not because of him I say Glen Sather, the GM, needs to go. He spent 30.1 million $'s on their top players and they are a combined -47. Good cap management.

I went on NHL.com and the Panthers site and I saw so much material on J-Bo. I wouldn't mind the Cats dealing him as long as they get a VERY GOOD offensive player. If the Cats had a top flight scorer (maybe not Ovechkin's level but around it) they would bring home the brass.

I hate the Rangers too! They remind me of the Yankees in NY. They just chuck money at veterans and expect them to make the team so talent laden that they will automatically win. I'm glad they're tanking.

Big game today!

Panthers vs. Bruins. Oh boy. Vokoun has the flu. But Craig Anderson is a great backup.

As a Yankee fan, I'm going to play devil's advocate a little here.

I much prefer an owner/GM who is willing to spend an insane amount of money to try and win, as opposed to tightwads who only care about their personal bottom line and couldn't give two shits about winning. The key is that if you're going to throw money around, at least be smart about. Sinking 15 mil into Wade Redden and Chris Drury is not smart. The Yankees pouring out money for Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright a few years ago was stupid also, but doing the same thing this offseason for Sabathia and Texeiria (sp?) is pretty smart if you ask me. Then again, the Yanks are in an uncapped league, and the Rangers aren't, so they're stupidity is compounded.

Bottom line is, if you've got money to burn and want to bring in marquee players, more power to you. Just be smart about and don't spend money just to do it, especially in a capped league like the NHL where you can handcuff your franchise for years.

I understand what you are saying. I, by no means, am not a baseball fan. But I do go to Blue Jays games on a regular basis (plan on going to a few this season) and to see the Yankees snatch up all the talent and see the Blue Jays not be able to spend nearly that much is a pain for us here. I remember when the Jays won back to back in 1992 and 1993 or was it 1993 and 1994, doesn't matter because that will never happen again when the Yanks can throw that much money around.

And, to see the Rangers completely kill themselves over the last 2 seasons is great. I can't wait until the become bottom feeders and have to start putting players on waivers. It may happen soon, but lets wait and see what John Tortorella does first...
