Whew, that was a big win for the Panthers today especially after that rape in Boston. Coming from behind has become a regularity with the Cats. It's pretty hard to do against Lundqvist. Although, I noticed that his 5 hole is so weak. A child could put one through there.

That and we're 6th now!!!

Watch out Habs!!!

I guess we're doing you a favor Walnut, for catching up with them.

=)

I like how Cam Ward comes out BIG after a weak game. He was a fucking beast last night, and really helped us get that OT win against the Sabres. And dude, that Jokinen can score on shootouts.

The Leafs need to stop winning,

Beat the Rangers twice and the Islanders once in 4 days. STOP WINNING.

Montreal claims Glen Metropolit off waivers from Philly.

Vancouver claims Ossi Vaananen off waivers from Philly.

Shit is happenin' yo

Brodeur records his 100th career shut-out today, now only 4 shut-outs away from being the all time shut-out leader. Brodeur has as many shut-outs as Marc Andre-Fleury has wins. Brodeur is also like 5 wins away from passing Patrick Roy in all time wins by a goalie. Greatest goalie ever = Martin Brodeur? I think so.

The Leafs won again last night against the Sens. STOP FUCKING WINNING. We now only sit 7 points out of the playoffs, we should be 7 points out of 30th place.

Trade deadline in 2 days 12 hours 43 minutes and 5 seconds, and counting.

Bill Guerin was suppose to play last night for the Islanders, but was taken off the ice just before the pre-game skate. So the rumores of where he is being traded are pretty big. I say Washington is where he goes. But I think no matter where he goes, he will probably help said team out.

Scott Howson, GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets, was at the Sens-Leafs game last night. A lot of people are saying that he is interested in either Antoine Vermette from Ottawa or Nik Antropov/Dominic Moore from Toronto. Hopefully something happens soon.

Lastly, the Habs beat the Sharks? Congrats, that is a big win. Thornton sure look pissed throughout the game. Oh and the Edmonto-Minnesota game was so boring, that wasn't a very good "playoff" atmosphere for 2 teams fighting to get into the playoffs.

Rant over.

Oh man. I hope Guerin doesn't go to the Caps. Last thing the Panthers need is for them to have more firepower. Speaking of them. We bounced back to record a huge 6-2 victory of the Capitals yesterday for a mid afternoon beatdown. Ovechkin just had to get a cheap goal in there with 25 seconds left though. I just don't get it with that guy...

I have never seen a wrist shot like his. EVER

You never seen Joe Sakic play in his prime then.

Speaking of the western conference, what a crazy game last night between the Lightning and the Flames. Jarome Iginla had 5 points and is now the all time points leader for the Flames. But his big night was spoiled by a 8-5 win by the Lightning. Crazy shit, I am just happy that the Bolts won.

Yea man. I saw Sakic destroy the Panthers along with his other friends in that ugly sweep in 1996... Did you hear Jokinen got traded to the Flamers???

It was awesome to demolish the Caps last night. If we only could play like that every night.

And, we got Eric Cole back. Don't know how pleased I am about that as he's been shitty in Edmonton. Williams leaves for LA. He's a good player, and it's sad to see him go.

It was funny how nothing happened for like the first 8 hours of today, then as soon as 2:30 pm hit, the trades went nuts.

Calgary destroyed at this trade deadline, making them a competitor for the cup.

I also called the Vermette to Columbus trade a few days back. Bask in my glory. Go and check if you don't believe me, I definitely called that shit.

list of all the trades today in order of newest to oldest: http://tsn.ca/tradecentre/feature/?id=1 ... elated_nhl

Yeah, I kept updating the ESPN.com live blog, and thinking "Where is the action?", but then business picked up. I guess they said there was a fax machine issue at the NHL offices.

The Hawks were pretty quiet with just the Pahlsson trade. I really, really hate to lose Wiz, but I guess they weren't going to be able to re-sign him next year anyway. I can't believe they had to thrown in a 2nd and a prospect though. Pahlsson is a good defensive center and faceoff guy, but is he worth all that? We'll see I guess.

So what do you make of the Leafs firesale DW?

EDIT: I now see that the original report on the Hawks trade was incorrect, its actually the Ducks who owe the Hawks a pick. They also threw in a D man I've never heard of. Nonetheless, the trade looks much better to me now.

First off, you guys will like Pahlsson. I know I do. He was a major part of the Ducks winning the cup in 2006. Plus you got a young tier 2 type prospect coming back your way. I know Wis is a good young d-man, but you guys needed a center and badly. Pahlsson is perfect IMO.

As for the Leafs, well after 9 years of Antropov it will be sad to see him go. Especially since he was finally playing like the player he was suppose to be when we drafted him back in 1998. His injury problems are all gone, and he is a big strong 30 goal scorer on a team that sucks. Give him the right supporting cast in NYR and he hits 30 to 35 goals this season for sure.

Moore to Buffalo also hurts. Because Moore was one of our assistant captains, or alternate captains to you americans, and he is the definitiion of a heart and soul guy. He works his ass off every shift and never complains. He is a leader he is not very old and did have some offense in him. Just look at how he re-juvinated Jason Blakes career. Plus Moores 42 points so far this season destroys his previous career high of 18 points.

But on the positive side, both of these guys were set to become UFAs a come July 1st. UFAs that Brian Burke really had no interest in re-signing. He did try to re-sign Dominic Moore, but Moore wanted more money than the Leafs were offereing him. The Leafs offered him roughly 1.5 million a season for 2-3 years. Dominic Moore wanted 2.3 to 2.5 million a year. 2.3-2.5 is too much for a 3rd line center. And we got precious precious draft picks. So as much as it hurts to see those 2 leave, the 3 draft picks they got us will be nice to see what they become. Plus Burkes last minute trade with Tampa Bay was genius. We pretty much got a 4th round pick and a former 1st overall pick in Andy Rogers for 500 000$. Plus picking up Martin Gerber off waivers will definitely help us lose a lot of our remaining 18 games. If he plays well, then we re-sing him or trade his rights to a team hurting for a good back-up goalie. So it's really win-win.

I can't wait for the draft and July 1st. These days should be even more fun for us Leafs fans.

Rant over.

Lose Leafs Lose!

Long time NHLer Gary Roberts retired today.

He was drafted by Calgary in the 1st round, 12th overall, way back in 1984, won a cup with them in 1988-89.

Played for Calgary, Carolina, Toronto, Florida, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay.

Had 438 career goals, 471 career assists, for 909 career points. As well as 2560 PIMs. Now that's what I call a power forward.

So, we're on the roll with two big wins over big teams. We smashed Calgary 6-1 last night which included a great Eric Cole-comeback, a Ray Whitney hat-trick which secured his 200th career goal, and a general improvement on what we've been sucking badly at this season. I think Eric Cole's homecoming fired up everyone, including the crowd, and frankly, Eric Staal was just on big smile out there. They have great chemistry. Samsonov responds on being moved to the second line by netting one and getting one assist.

The only thing I'll complain about is Maurice scratching Sutter. Again. Instead of bringing him on the fourth line due to injuries, he brought up some mediocre guy who haven't been playing decent hockey in months. Frustrating.

We're up against Tampa tonight and I guess we have a retty good chance as we're 5-0 against them this season and 9 for 11 on the second half of back2back games. A hard roadtrip follows after a home game against the Rangers, including Chicago, Dallas and Washington again.

So, with the 9-3 win over Tampa tonight we've scored 20 goals over the last three games. This is really looking good, and the Cole-trade proved very very significant for Staal and the rest of the team.

First line stats:

Eric Staal: 6 points, 4 goals, 2 assists
Tuomo Ruutu: 5 points, 2 goals, 3 assists
Erik Cole: 4 points, 0 goals, 4 assits.

In addition to that, Brindy ended his longest career scoring drought, Babchuk continues to score points, and our penalty killing and powerplay has improved loads during the last couple of games. It's great fun to watch the Hurricanes nowadays, I just hope we have enough mojo left for the Rangers game on monday.

Slugs lose to Ottawa which is good for our playoff situation. Other notes is that we swept Tampa Bay this season with six W's, and made for the 10th victory on the second half of back to back games this season. I think we're 10 for 12. The only thing that's missing is that the Kittens start losing some ground as well.

There were a few blow outs in the NHL tonight.

Carolina over Tampa 9-3 as Thomas said.

Plus,

the Islanders beat the Devils 7-3. Yes the Islanders beat the Devils 7-3. No seriously, the Islanders beat the Devils 7-3.

Columbus beat Detroit 8-2, Rick Nash had an un-assisted hat-trick. He will look nice in a Leafs jersey in 2 years from now...

Ottawa beat Buffalo 6-3, and I couldn't be happier about this. Keep winning Ottawa! Oh please keep winning.

Other scores:
Boston 5 - Chicago 3
Los Angelas 4 - Minnesota 3 (keep winnin LA!)
Phillidelphia 4 - Nashville 1
Florida 5 - St. Louis 2
Vancouver 3 - San Jose 1
and lastly
Edmonton 4 - Toronto 1

Martin Gerber showed his true colours tonight, as all 4 goals were incredibly weak. Sure 2 of them were breakaways, but both of them were weak 5-hole goals. Close them damn legs Marty. Ponikarovsky played in his 400th NHL game tonight ans scored his 18th goal of the season. Keep raising that trade potential Poni...
I am happy we lost and I hope it continues. Ottawa is gaining on us, and soon hopefully they will pass us. Especially with their 2 games in hand.

The playoff races are starting to get really really intense. Every loss a team seems to fall in the standings, and with every win sees them jump at least 2 spots. I love this time of year, and the playoffs are right around the corner. I love it. Nothing beats playoff hockey.

David Booth scored a hat trick (one of 4 in the NHL last night) as we beat the Blues 5-3. I'm very impressed with the Panthers. They just don't lose 2 in a row...
