Very good review, and an awesome album, probably my fav tied with The Sound of Perseverance. I really really miss Chuck works, one of the most influential musicians in the history of Metal. RIP. :dio:

Fantastic review. Couldn't have said what I feel about this album better. A classic through and through. The last two sentences, " The Secret? Chuck took it with him to the stars." was really touching. Chuck's one of my fav vocalists/musicians.

THERE WILL BE ZERO TOLERANCE.

That song blows me away. Not my favorite Death album but a pretty damn solid one, like all of them.

AHHHHH! FINALLY! I knew I should have reviewed this a long time ago. Glad someone finally did! This is hands down the best Death album for me, let alone somewhere in my top 100 of all time if I could ever come up with such a list! Great production, songwriting, performance, etc. I recently bought the remastered version. However, I do not hear any difference from the original.

Finally! Perhaps the greatest death metal album by the greatest death metal musician. The genre has certainly come a long way as far as brutality and technicality go, but you just can't beat good old fashioned song writing.

As much as I love the proggy/tech experimentation on perseverance, I still hold this album higher because the songwriting is just out of this world. Every song is a masterpiece for its own reason, but perennial quest deserves to be pointed out because its the perfect symbology for everything chuck stood for. From the lyrics, to the riffs, and especially the solo, its a brilliant way to end such an awesome album.

Great review

I was a bit chuffed that the pure awesomeness that is Crystal Mountain didn't get a particular mention. That for me is the ultimate Death song, with the riffing, the soloing, the technical melodies as well as that flamenco style stuff at the end.

I remember listening to this album my junior year in mathclass and thinking "hmm its pretty good", but then I heard Evil dead, Zombie Ritual, and Behold the unholy grave and subsequently threw this album in the back of my car and haven't heard it since.

An AWESOME album that I'm actually listening to as I type this. My favorite song is probably Empty Words. But I also really like Without Judgement and Perennial Quest.

My favorite Death album next to Sound Of Perseverance, and for that matter, probably my second favorite death metal album of all time. Which, of course, would mean my all-time favorite death metal album iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis....

Death confuse me....I always think of Death Metal being brutal.....but Death isn't... at least not on Human or Symbolic

Scream Bloody Gore is pretty brutal. Same with the old Death demos from the mid 80s.
