Day 4. I didn't watch a lot of games, but Chris Osgood has proved once again that poor regular season play does not equal poor Playoff play. Simeon Varlamov made his NHL playoffs debut, wasn't too bad either.

Scores:

East:
Boston Bruins 5 - Montreal Canadiens 1
Bruins lead series 2-0

New York Rangers 1 - Washington Capitals 0
Rangers lead series 2-0

West:
Detroit Red Wings 4 - Columbus Blue Jackets 0
Red Wings lead series 2-0

Chicago Blackhawks 3 - Calgary Flames 2
Blackhawks lead series 2-0

Montreal is getting a beating... Not really surprised..

Was about to say the same about Osgood.. Blanks Colombus last night. As you say regular season hockey doesn't equal playoff-hockey.. You'll get that from watching Steve Mason too

After pulling back two goals making 2-2 in 25 secs, the Penguins was beat comfortably and deservedly tonight. Fun game to watch, and Malkin got some points, as did Cagne. Lots of fighting, roughing and elbowing, and Crosby had one pathetic attmept to fight someone, but the refs got in between.

Final Score:
Flyers - Penguins 6-3

Series:
Penguins - Flyers 2-1

Day 5. Another day where I didn't get to see much hockey but, Jonas Hiller played amazing for the Ducks again tonight allowing 2 goals on 40+ shots, he's only allowed 2 all series on 80+ shots. Sundin didn't play with a lower body injury. Lucic suspended 1 game.

Scores:

East:
Philadelphia Flyers 6 - Pittsburgh Penguins 3
Penguins lead series 2-1

New Jersey Devils 3 - Carolina Hurricanes 2 in OT
Devils lead series 2-1

West:
Vancouver Canucks 3 - St. Louis Blues 2
Canucks lead series 3-0

Anaheim Ducks 3 - San Jose Sharks 2
Ducks lead series 2-0

I'm smelling a sweep for the Hawks. They're inside Calgary's head. That's two games in a row the Flames have outplayed them in the first period only to see their lead slip away. That second goal (Kane to Sharp) was one of the best I've seen in a long time. Perfect pass, awesome backhand to forehand shot. I was bouncing off the walls.

It must suck to be a Sharks fan right now. In fact, my best friend is one, and he kept telling me last week that this was their year to buck their recent playoff trend. Ruh roh!!!

Lundquist and Luongo are scary good right now. I would hate to go against either of them.

Playoff hockey is so badass, especially when you compare it to the prolonged BS the NBA is running at the same time.

Day 6. What a dirty, gritty game between Chicago and Calgary. I can't wait for game 4. Varlamov for the first time in his NHL career gets back to back starts and gets a shut-out. Montreal down 3 games, only 2 teams in the history of the NHL have ever came back being down 3 games. My Leafers were one of those 2, Montreal was not the other one.

Scores:

East:
Washington Capitals 4 - New York Rangers 0
Rangers lead series 2-1

Boston Bruins 4 - Montreal Canadiens 2
Bruins lead series 3-0

West:
Calgary Flames 4 - Chicago Blackhawks 2
Blackhawks lead series 2-1

Why Calgary? Chicago was playing on the road without one of their best players. Even with the loss, they're 7-1 against the Flames this season. If they manage to win even one of the games in Calgary, this series is in the bag.

Nervous as FUCK before the game tonight. Canes better win this one, and the first line has to figure out a way around the Devils' defense. Sutter has done an amazing job shutting them down for the last three games as their effort has been next to nothing except the hitting of course. Luckily we have three other lines that are more than able to casue trouble for Brodeur and his men.

Another key to this series is staying out of the box and start converting the PP's. Credit given to the Devils who has had an enormous Penalty Kill. So did we luckily but I think the team that can break the curse will win this.

If we don't get this one, and New Jersey travels back home with 3-1 in the bag, this is more or less over. Then again, the Hurricanes hasn't played their best hockey by far, and we have still been able to give New Jersey trouble even though they have been on the top of their game, and had a match-winner in Brodeur back there.

Here's to a great game tonight. Go Canes!

Yeah, Patrick Kane had the flu, he'll be back tomorrow night.

Calgary definitely played better last night, but I don't see that happening 3 more times personally.

okay... excitement aside...

Two absolutely sick periods by the canes results in three well deserved goals, and I'm sure if it wasn't Brodeur in net, the lead should've been 5 or 6-1 after two. Forechecking was excellent, Ward was great, Staal's line was great, PP had some grit even though we didn't score... Caused a lot of traffic around Brodeur, and kept our shots low so that he releases some juicy rebounds. oh man.

First ten of third nearly cost us this though. And that is not good, and I hope I won't see that again ever from my beloved Canes. What Maurice said to them after the second must be something like weather the storm and whitstand the pressure. That will not work when 5 of 6 defenders are offensive, and their defensive skills are limited. Ward was great but had no chance on the goals, I hope that was insightful, because those two goals could've killed us of, along with our playoff hopes and dreams.

However, the absolutely titanic goal by Jokinen 0.2 freakin' seconds left of the third period have to kill the Devils-momentum,as this serves as major motivation travelling back to New Jersey. What a sick playoff game. It doesn't get better than this.

GO CANES!

Elsewhere:

Pittsburgh puts stranglehold on Flyers with 3-1 win. They look terrifying this year, and might as well be Boston's true contender for the Eastern Conference Finals.

Detroit owns Colombus with 4-1 in Colombus' first home game in the playoffs ever. Things are looking though for Nash and company, as they have to win four in a row to go through to the semi's, which is highly unlikely.

Vancouver is looking for a clean sweep in St. Louis, and started of good with a 2-0 lead after one. However, St. Lous has bounced back, and it is now tied at two in the third.

Day 7. The Sharks finally get to Hiller. The Canes had a 3-0 lead and blew but still win with 0.02 seconds left, leaving Brodeur very upset. He said the refs were horrible. Fleury was huge yet again for the Pens. Still no Sundin for the `Nucks, but it doesn`t matter. They swept the Blues. The first time in the 38 year history that the Canucks swept somebody in the playoffs. Luongo looks hurt, as well as half of the `Nucks team. Gary Bettman in attendence at the first ever Playoff game in Columbus, I knew he was bad luck.

Scores:

East:
Pittsburgh Penguins 3 - Philadelphia Flyers 1
Penguins lead series 3-1

Carolina Hurricanes 4 - New Jersey Devils 2
Series tied at 2-2

West:
Detroit Red Wings 4 - Columbus Blue Jackets 1
Red Wings lead series 3-0

Vancouver Canucks 3 - St. Louis Blues 2 in OT
Canucks win series 4-0

San Jose Sharks 4 - Anaheim Ducks 3
Ducks lead series 2-1

oh man when Luongo was slow to get up i was like FUCK THAT CANT HAPPEN. and then it didnt. so i was happy. Burrows continues his trend of scoring important goals.

even though i still don't think Sundin deserves his paycheck, not having him has made me appreciate him a little more. The Sundin/Kesler/Demitra line was doing great offensively the first two games, but now without Sundin i've hardly noticed them (except Kesler a few times) in games 3 and 4.

What a fucking pansy he is... I've lost more and more respect for him after he broke that record... He thinks he can draw a penalty for everything just because he's the greatest goalie ever.. Standing outside the crease skating into Jokinen doesn't get you a goaltender interference call with a second left damnit.. And, this sort of feels like a payback since he has gone punching people in the face with his stick and hand in three of the alst games without getting called whihch has been terribly frustrating..
