Unless he was getting bold, had to shave his head and tatooed it too.

It's the purposeful promotion of a silly aesthetic or "look" that merits ridicule, IMO, not simply music tastes.

In an ideal world, sure. As it is, someone coming up to me and saying what huge fans of The Jonas Brothers they are will be on the receiving end of more heavy sarcasm than someone who likes Isis, or Godspeed You! Black Emperor or whatever the musical opposite of The Jonas Brothers is. You'd be the same in that situation, I can't think of anyone on this site who wouldn't. Heck, even Seinfeld would shake his head in sorrow.

It's what I'm saying.

Surely the easiest way to identify a poser is somebody who wears an Iron Maiden t-shirt and only knows Run to the Hills. Or someone who says they love death metal such as early Trivium.

Looking down the reviews forum, it's interesting how bands like this, Lacuna Coil and Marilyn Manson get all the posts whilst people ignore the bands that one would've assumed they'd be more interested in. So are most of the posters here posers, or just lazy, preferring to attack easy targets than check a new band out?

It's because there's a consensus about what people are interested in. No one needs to debate that. It's that possible "posers" provide more interesting discussions, and something to argue about.

Or, like I said, an easy target. Lazy.

Interesting debate =/= easy target.
Your conclusion is lazier than the laziest of the posters here.

No, not really. It's just that you can't argue if everyone's in agreement. There have to be differing opinions, and no one's going to argue that the new Mastodon, for example, is crap.

Have to agree with this, I'm afraid...

Not that I wouldn't like to see more replies on the more obscure albums reviewed here by new bands, but there are many possible opinions and reactions to this record and really only "sounds good, I'll check it out" on a lot of other things.

What would be good is that, after people checked the more obscure bands, they come back to the thread to comment on it...

True... I'm saying this but then I'm as guilty of not doing so as anyone else.

But the debates aren't interesting. "Marilyn Manson has a strange image" "Lacuna Coil have a lady in it". Come on.

But at least there's disagreement about it.

Pfft, hardly. Lacuna Coil was me vs everyone, and that was partly me being deliberately argumentative.
