That's nonsense. Some forms of meat are far crueller than others, and there's nothing philosophically incoherent (or whatever you want to call it) about drawing a line somewhere.

Crueller how? Just because in western culture dogs are considered pets rather than food doesn't make them any less animal.

I mean your general notion that it's worthless distinguishing between different types of animal cruelty is nonsense. I don't know anything about Korean food so wouldn't want to compare them and the West.

Although, provided these Korean food-dogs aren't jammed by their hundreds of thousands into tiny cages in which they can't stand, and end up with with many broken bones because it is so cramped, then they are probably a kinder form of meat than our chickens are.

I never said that. I never talked about the killing method. I agree that that is a possible discerning criteria. I talked about distinguishing between certain animals. Most people in Europe and the US would never eat a dog, no matter how it was killed. How is a dog different from a pig?

Er, ok, don't really care in that case.

Although, it makes me wonder whether you would see any difference between eating a chicken and eating, say, a chimpanzee.

I just wanted to share an interesting anecdote with Legacy, and look what happens.

Anybody ever eaten head cheese?

A dog would live and mud in shit if it hadn't been raised in a bed, and vice versa for a pig. In fact, studies have shown that pigs are capable of very rudimentary expressions of emotion and attachment. Why are they still different?

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that mankind has learnt evolutionarily that meat-eating animals don't taste as good or nourish as well as vegetarian animals. Hence bears being poisonous and that.

That's the rule I've always heard: you don't eat animals that eat other animals.
Therefore, cats dogs and such are out.

Still doesn't make it morally wrong.

I WIN.

You'd rather a pig sleep in a bed then a dog?

If you have to declare yourself the winner then there's invariably a problem somewhere along the line...

That only seems strange because we're not used to pigs sleeping beds. Pigs have always been food for us, and we've always let them live in filth. What if the roles had been inverted, and dogs had always lived in filth, while pigs had gained a reputation as being "man's best friend"? I dislike pets that require a great deal of attention, my cat seems happy when no one's bothering her, but I wouldn't be disgusted by a pig as long as it was clean.

You could soak a pig in bleach and it would still be the most vile thing. Also, my dog does not require a lot of attention she just likes sleeping on a bed made for dogs. Dogs > Pigs, though when it comes to Floyd songs they are about equal.
