I don't think the Leafs should draft Cowen seeing as how they already drafted a defensive defenceman last year. I'd rather have them draft a skilled forward or offensive defenceman.

Yeah, if we don't trade up I'd like to see us get that swedish kid. MPS or MSP whatever his name is. But Brian Burke has almost guaranteed that he will do whatever he can to trade up. As I said, Brayden Schenn please.

Brayden Schenn would definitely be a great choice. He's totally the type of player that Burke loves.

And just imagine having both Schenns for our cup runs in the future.

Just imagine captain Luke handing the cup to assistant captain Brayden.

TRADE ALERT TRADE ALERT TRADE ALERT

Phoenix has traded centre Steve Reinprecht to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Stefan Meyer.

The Coyotes have also agreed to terms with forward Petr Prucha on a two-year deal worth $1.1 million per season.

Reinprecht, meanwhile, has signed a three-year deal with the Panthers.

Reinprecht's three-year deal has a cap hit of $2.050 million. He will get $1.8 million in the first year and $2.175 million in each of the following two years.

Chris Chelios to retire?

According to a Detroit based newspaper, the Red Wings will not offer the 47 year-old d-man another contract. Maybe Chicago will try to swoon him back so he can retire where he was drafted? Chelios is the second oldest player in the history of the NHL/WHA. Gordie Howe holds the record of playing until he was 50. Ironically, he was also a Red Wing for a long long time.

The 2009 NHL Entry Draft is now just under 19 hours away. John Tavares for the longest time was considered to be the #1 pick, but his average play to finish the season and his below average playoffs have many people wondering. A lot of people are saying the Islanders may be taking Matt Duchene instead of Tavares. Victor Hedman is pretty much set in stone to go 2nd overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Whoever is left would be just fine for the Colarado Avalanche, who pick 3rd overall.

There are a lot of trade rumors out there...

Jay Bouwmeester's rights to Philly or Vancouver.

Vinny Lecalvier to Montreal.

Dany Heatley to LA, Rangers, or Boston.

Ryan Clowe to Toronto.

Montreal has supposedly turned down offers for the rights of d-man Mike Komisarek. Also, the Habs are rumored to be interested in acquiring the rights of both Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

Mats Sundin said he would be interested in returning to Vancouver.

Roberto Luongo rumored to be ready to sign a contract extension with the Canucks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs ( :dio: ) have received an offer for d-man Tomas Kaberle. Not a whole lot is known, either than the Leafs are seriously considering it. The Leafs have also had 3 other teams inquire about Kaberle. Atlanta being one of the possible teams.

Brian Burke said he will NOT trade 19 year old d-man Luke Schenn. His quote as to why: "We’re not moving Luke. We worked hard to get him last summer and I think he may be the captain of our team in a couple of years.”

Veteran forward Sergei Fedorov leaves the NHL. Signed with a team in the KHL today, deal is for 2 years. He played for 13 seasons in the NHL scoring just under 500 goals and just under 2000 points. He has won 3 stanley cups, Hart, Selke, and Lester B. Pearsone trophies. Future Hockey Hall of Famer for sure.

...

DRAFT TIME!!

All 30 GM's are in Montreal right now getting ready for the Draft. This is almost better than christmas.

Less than 2 hours!

I can't wait for all the Montreal fans to get upset when they don't get Vinnie.

The Boston Bruins have offerd 21 year old Phil Kessel and a draft pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Tomas Kaberle.

Oh man, I like his trade. Sure seeing Kaberle go would suck, but to get a 21 year old player who just scored 36 goals would be amazing. Not to mention a draft pick as well.

Afraid not, Sanchez. It was the other way around- Kessel for Kaberle and Toronto's number 7 draft pick (I mean, there's no way that they would trade Kessel and a draft pick for Kaberle). This wouldn't be good for Toronto, since you'd be getting a restricted free agent who might not stay for long, and this would fuck up Toronto's chance at rebuilding the team. Anyway, the trade seems to be dead, as per:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/ind ... run_pierre

Be happy for your team. Still...

I can't wait for all the Toronto fans to get upset when they miss the playoffs but don't suck enough to get a good draft pick next year.

Big trade sends Pronger to Philly. Great fit. Costly though; Lupul, Sbisa and two first round picks. Now all Philly needs is a good goalie.

Kings pick Schenn. Solid. Burke didn't seem to happy about it. Toronto then picks Kadri, a bit of a surprise. From what I've heard he's extremely skilled but inconsistent.

Three Swedes picked in the top ten, nice.

TSN reported it earlyier today as well as said it all throughout the draft that was in fact Kessel and a pick to Toronto for Kaberle. I'll take TSN over ESPN anytime thank you very much.

I also can't wait for the Leafs to miss the playoffs again and get another high draft pick. While Montreal is in shambles with all of their UFAs and RFAs.

PS - Fuck You LA, we wanted Brayden Schenn.

Brahm, seems we were both right/wrong.

It was originally said to be Kaberle and a pick for Kessel then it was reported Kessel and a pick for Kaberle. Now the trade seems to be dead. I would of done Kaberle for Kessel and a pick for sure. It may be a little lopsided for us, but Kaberle is on one hell of a sweet contract and that would put the B's defense up to one of th ebest in the league. Plus we get a pick and a 21 year old 36 goal man.

But whatever, it wont happen.

A bit disappointed though, I thought there'd be more trades and movement. I guess the salary cap and the future of it really makes a team think twice.

Sounds like the Oilers got a steal in Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson. Most mock drafts I've read had him higher then 10. Some I've read even between 3rd and 5th.

DevotedWalnut, what did you think of Burke's comments to Bryan Murray:
