I laughed as well throughout the entire thing because only Eastwood could deliver such crass lines with a straight face. His disdain for everyone and everything just dripped with dark sarcasm. Awesome. The ending was awful to watch him die like that. I loved the film. :)

*sigh*

Ah, thanks for that, Captain Spoiler. Been looking forwards to this film, too. Hopefully it'll still be worth sitting through by the time the rental company deliver it.

I rented Die Hard from Netflix. I've seen Die Hard 2, but I haven't seen the original. That's going to change probably next week.

Eh? I meant that he was his usual self, in terms of acting, a little I Am Sam, a little Mystic River, etc.

You'll still enjoy it. Eastwood is such a badass.

Yeah but shit, spoilers is just about the only thing that can really ruin something for you, coming from the internetz. Keep em away, or atleast in the usual small font style.

1. I know that Harvey Milk was gay.
2. I was not saying that gay people are retards.
3. I meant that Sean Penn's acting style is now so recognisable that it's as if he just incorporates little bits of previous performances into the new ones.
4. Did he get an oscar for Milk?
5. He shouldn't have if he did.
6. People who give one-word replies to stuff and don't explain their nagging little points suck.
7. Nomnomnom.
8. I just ate a grape.

I was making a joke. <3

I think it would be funny to compare the performances in Milk and I am Sam to find similarities between his gay gesticulations and his handicapped ones.

I think what you're mentioning happens to pretty much any actors, partly because they're typecast, partly because there's a limit to how much someone can act. I can't think of any actors who really reinvent themselves with each role; Daniel Day-Lewis comes close but even then there's similarities between his character in Gangs of New York and Daniel Plainview. Penn did a great job in Milk and deserved the Oscar. I haven't seen The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but none of the other performances nominated were significantly better than him. (The only one I'd say might be better is Mickey Rourke's. Richard Jenkins was good in The Visitor but I kinda rolled my eyes when he gave his big dramatic speech in the immigration office.)

Yeah, I have no sense of humour sometimes.

I'd suggest Ryan Gosling as being very chameleonlike, but that's from memory. Penn is a good actor, but he's not natural enough really for me; you never forget that it's Sean Penn there, he's either acting or HE'S ACTING. The ones who make you believe that's what they're actually like are better, Meryl Streep usually manages it, Gary Oldman as well.

Ryan Gosling is pretty awesome. He even makes good music! I guess I haven't seen many Sean Penn movies because I didn't really like the few I saw him in so that might have helped. :P

I'd given the Oscar to Mickey Rourke without blinking.

Keanu Reaves is pretty good at changing his act... oh wait :P

Spider - Slow, sad. First half of the movie was boring but by the end I was satisfied (same thing happened with Eastern Promises and History of Violence, the other two Cronenberg movies I've seen.)

The Conversation - Great, simple movie focused on a well-done character.

You're comparing two of his most recent movies, both where he portrays a villain. Look at his entire catalog, the guy is brilliant and different in every role.

Benjamin Button was over hyped and over Hollywooded. The Wrestler deserved more than what it got, and The Visitor was the most overlooked movie of 2008. Richard Jenkins was brilliant, and that scene at the immigration office was brilliant, I got chills, and that doesn't happen very often when I watch movies.
