One of the best beginnings in the history of literature.

It'd be nice to know what it is instead of sharing this secret thing of beauty between yourselves.

It should be obvious, but anyway...

Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis"

Arrogance, it seems, can in fact make you look gay.

I'm sorry, but Gregor Samsa should be part of basic cultural knowledge. And yes, I can be arrogant.

I never really bothered to read stuff that I should, I always stuck to stuff like Stephen King and James Herbert. Raymond E Feist and stuff is good as well. I prefer the stuff that book lovers generally think is shit haha.

Which is fine. But do yourself a favour and get into some of the more "elite" stuff (saying elite is bullshit, anyone can read it. What's important is what you take from it).

When I hear Gregor Samsa I think of the post-rock band. Maybe one day I will listen to them while reading Metamorphosis.

I do the exact same thing. I love Metamorphosis, though I think In The Penal Colony is Kafka's best.

Frank McCourt's died, author of Angela's Ashes, a thoroughly miserable book that you should all not read because it's depressing.

It's a lot of fun so far; very bawdy, lots of interesting sex talk, and donkeys! It's also interestingly the most modern sounding ancient text I've ever read.

Currently reading the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. So far I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

stop at the end of The Waste Lands, it's just a steep ride downhill from there.

I disagree. Wizard and Glass is a love hate type book- a lot of people, including myself, love it. Admittedly, the last three books are weaker (especially book 6, which just sucks), and The Waste Lands is the best one, but the seventh book for the most part is very well done (with a few misteps) and has an awesome ending.

Dark Tower = best series ever. IMO.

I have the last three first editions with artwork in them, anybody else have them? They're quality.
