This went south whe someone assumed that I was an Obama supporter or a democrat. I am neither.

My mistake. I guess that's what happens when assumptions are made. And, given your, err, rant, it was a fair one to make; the same people that rail against Palin and co. are the same ones that turn a blind eye to the foibles of the other side of the aisle.
To Obama's credit, he seems to be doing the best he can to make things at least bear a semblance to what is right. Still, good luck.
And it's one thing to disagree with her beliefs and policies, but why make it a personal thing? What has she ever done to you?
I say they should just cut the crap already, and put an entry in the Thesaurus indicating that "steaming pile of bullshit" is synonomous with politics.

I take shots at everyone and anyone despite any kind of allegiance I may have. What she did was speak to me and every other American as if we were idiot sheep. She somehow expected people to buy into her folksy 'aw shucks' bullshit and if you called her out on it she said that you were somehow Un-American. That pissed me off. She made accusations that were deliberately aimed at pitting Americans against each other when she said things like,' There's two different Americas.' She was at a rally and spoke of a 'real America'. Conversely there must be a false or fictional America right?

She purposely painted the picture that if you were not from a rural area and you weren't a hunter, farmer, or cowboy then you must live in the 'other America'. That pissed me off! I was no less an American while living about 20 miles from the Pentagon when a plane was flown into it. I don't think New Yorkers were somehow deficient Americans when New York was attacked. How dare she make statements like that?! My father lived in Washington DC and New York City while growing up. He enlisted into the Army and fought in Korea. Because he lived in those areas, does make his service any less? She's a nut!

That's what she did to me.

As for politics here, I am sickened by the celebrity politician and the bullshit that comes with them. The system here is a wreck and quite frankly I don't trust any of them. Not a one. They have twisted the Constitution, our form of government, and laws for their own personal gain.

You might enjoy George Monbiot's "Manifesto For A New World Order". Political analysis expostulating the necessity for a complete revamp of the American political system.

Oh...and as an added bonus, I take great offense from any politician who attempts to tell me what's morally correct and how I need to raise my family. She's busy preaching her bible thumping family values venomous crap while her kid is fucking her boyfriend in Palin's house and then becomes pregnant.

I believe that one gets filed under 'do as I say not as I do'. I do love me some hypocrisy.

Yeah, my view is that is all bullshit; left / right, R/ D, lib / con...
just tools these scum use to divide and conquer.
I gave up on the "system" a long time ago.
Speaking of celebrity bullshit, that's another thing I am damn tired of, too. Big news story was how Denzel Washington was at his sons first college basketball game... wow, imagine that; a father attending his sons games... why, us regular garden variety nobodies never do things like that, do we? Celebrities... is their anything they can't do?

This is where I can point out a difference between Palin's religiosity and Obama's religiosity. While I personally suspect that Obama is a skeptic, and probably an atheist or an agnostic, even if he were Christian he recognizes that his personal faith has no place in his public policy, something a fundamentalist like Palin cannot even conceive of. Obama, regardless of his faith, and the democratic party, seem to realize that secularism is an essential component of a civilized country.

It's only hypocrisy if she was aware of it going on and if she actually considers it to be alright.

Funny, you don't seem mind Obama telling you that you need to make sacrifices in these hard times whilst signing an unprecedented Wall Street bailout, or using up 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to plant a single tree, or the Hollywood left paying $50,000 a seat for his inauguration...
how about Michelle Obamas $30, 000 ring, given as a token of appreciation during Obama's campaign? Or anybody remember those $550 pair of designer... tennis shoes?!?
I heard that they spent around $1,000,000 on a "date night"...
there is a shitload more that I could produce, but that should suffice.
During a time in which unemployment is through the roof, people are losing their homes, and barely scraoing by, it is both crass and arrogant to say that "we need to make sacrifices", we being us, while the Obamas live like royalty.

Sacrifice, indeed.

Plus, the $50,000 was the top donation accepted rather than the cost of a seat. Obama wanted the names of donors published online rather than kept a secret, as in previous years.

Just because it was retracted doesn't mean it's false.
If that receipt is a fake, then why haven't there been any charges brought up against someone for forgery?
Besides, even if it was, it doesn't change the fact that they seem to like spending a lot of money. While we at home must be prepared to make sacrifices.
The inauguration cost upwards of $150 million... contrasted to Bush's $42 mil...but as long as it is not a christian conservative, it's all right, eh?
Hypocrisy is hypocrisy.

The epitome of crass arrogance is wearing $550 sneakers to a soup kitchen photo - op.

THE source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation

Well, it certainly is suggestive - that the story's a bunch of shit. That story about the ring was started by a British tabloid, which are notorious for making shit up. I'd guess that the receipt was done anonymously online, which makes it impossible to sue against. Otherwise, the inauguration costs were so high due to the millions that were expected to attend rather than Obama's ego.

just an observation, the wall stret bailout shouldn't be included in that list of luxuries. agree with it or not (i do), it's not like he did that for himself or for his image. if anything letting wall street fall would've made him 'the people's president' more than anything else.

Maybe, maybe not... just because the story was retracted, doesn't mean it didn't happen. It wouldn't be the first time a "retraction" was made in the face of political power, I'm sure.
I don't know anything about British press, so perhaps that story is bullshit. You being a Brit would know more about whatever that publication is called, I've never heard of it. So, yeah, maybe.
$1 million on a date, $550 for a pair of shoes... c'mon.
Just because the American press is quiet on these things (the press here has been enamored with the Obama's from day one, no surprise there) doesn't mean it has nothing to report.

The point is, sacrifice seems to be a one way street... and Wall Street wields a lot of power and influence over politics here.
This country has already been bought and sold, in case you haven't heard.

I'm not saying the guy's perfect by any means, just that it's amazing, the pure dripping shit that gets published and turned into fact in the minds of so many, when there are concrete things to criticise if the gutter end of the press would but lift its nose from the trough.

haha, the thing is, I don't really trust the press much, whether it be "legitimate" or tabloid...
an old quote (can't remember who said it) paraphrased:
"The best lies are those that are sandwiched between truths".
And I'm not saying the man's totally flawed, either. As you know, I consider myself apolitical, so it's not like I am arguing against Obama any more than I am arguing for Palin; both are politicians, therefore, liars, as afar as I am concerned.

Heh, indeed. Still, 'tis the very nature of this thread, that a post is made today and part of the great tapestry tomorrow, a medium for increasing your postcount with nought but silliness. Fits the topic well!

Believe me, I have HUGE issues with all of it. This where I usually get into my rant of the 'have and have nots' and how capitalism creates it. Again, I can't stand any politician and you've given great examples how power and greed permeate everything, everywhere, and corrupts totally.
