BJ fucking Penn. I never doubted him but I definitely didn't expect him to school Sanchez so badly.

Wish I could have seen more of Mir though :D

I was completely amazed by the gameplan of Diego's corner. They told him to take him down, round after round, but BJ isn't easy to take down, at all and Sanchez certainly doesn't have the wrestling to do it.

He should have been more aggressive on the feet, tried to set the pace, and throw leg kicks and high kicks.

He did try to throw a few high kicks, but BJ showed us all how to properly throw kicks to the head.

That was a nice sized gash. You can see it instantly open bleed as soon as he's kicked.

Yeah, but he should have picked it up. It didn't appear that BJ was going to bother to take Diego to the mat for the most part, and Diego needed to pick up the pace and start throwing kicks and varying combinations to mix up his strikes.

Not saying he would have won, but his game plan was utterly baffling. It just seemed he was caught up with fighting BJ Penn, too many fighters give far too much respect to some fighters in the ring, and it costs them. They're gun shy and tentative.

It was pretty ghastly. You could almost see any previously entertained thoughts of victory fly right out of it...
The Penn / Stevenson fight was a pretty bloody one, too.

How long have you been watching MMA, trapt? I'm kinda a noob(going on a couple of years), but it's pretty addictive.

I've watched it sparingly over the last few years. I usually just watch the Thursday night fight replays.

That first shot BJ landed rocked Sanchez, and that just fucked up his entire gameplan. He couldn't commit after that.

I think Diego didn't try to vary his strikes just because he knew that BJ is the better striker. Penn showed early in the fight that he is superior in that category. So Diegos corner got it in their head that he needs to take BJ down. Unfortunately Diego is not GSP or Matt Hughes.

the big question is, who takes on BJ next for the lightweight belt?

Well right. BJ has superior everything compared to Diego. He just needed to do something, be aggressive, go out there to win. Fighters that just hang back like that and take a beating totally baffle me. The championship fight and BJ got inside his head for sure.

I dunno, not really too worried about the LW division at this point in the UFC. It needs some spice. No one in there is going to give BJ a run for his money. I mean MAYBE a really strong wrestler that actually uses a decent game plan could get in there and do something, like Gray Maynard, but I think he'd just get stomped in that fight anyway.

anybody think that UFC 108 should be free? The fight card isn't that great, and UFC 109 is also in January.

Oh well, we will be getting both. And the fight card for 109 is pretty sick.

Yeah the fight card for 108 is pretty weak.. Injuries all around. All UFC events are free in Sweden though so it won't make much difference.

Ya, card was ruined by injuries. I'll probably be streaming it or just download it the day after.

Any of you guys watch WEC or Strikeforce on saturday? There were some very solid fights. Scott Smith did the usual come back special and KO'd Cung Le.

I wanted to see the StrikeForce event, but I didn't know when it was. I guess I will have to download it, or see if there will be a re-air here.

Even though the card is weak, I still do want to see the main event.. Rashad vs. Silva. Besides Machida, this will be the biggest challenge of Silvas career and I want to see how Evans responds after not fighting for so long and coming off his first career loss.

Watch them on mmatko.com. They're always there pretty quick, though sometimes getting the pages to load the next day is a bitch.

I watched them at mmashare.com. Quality not the best, but they load quick.

Cung Le was winning that fight, completely out striking Smith. Then... bam. Left hand to the jaw. Down goes Le, and Smith just stays on top of him. Good fight. Frank Shamrock is such a douche bag, and I wouldn't have him any other way.

Man Thiago Silva could of had him, he just couldn't get that killer instinct going. Evans fought like a less in shape GSP. Good striking and relentless takedowns, problem is Rashad gassed where GSP doesn't. All in all a good night of fights and I can't wait fir UFC 109 and 110.

Evans fought brilliantly in rounds 1 and 2, and for the first minute or two of round 3. Evans tired, but he definitely didn't gas. All those takedowns against a big strong dude like Silva will do that.

I think Thiago lost his killer instinct because Evans kicked his ass for so long. He was hesitant. Then with all his chest-beating bravado, I think it sort of lulled Evans to sleep for a bit. The second he stopped moving forward, that's when Silva had his chance. He almost capitalized, but credit goes to Evans for Silva failing to do so.

Evans schooled him for all but a moment of that fight.
