Well LS's post looks like about $3 so perhaps he does have a point.

I was more aiming it at Karma. Sunn O))) making a living from releasing albums? Come on. They'll be complaining next because only three members of Vomitory have day jobs or some such. Extreme Metal is not a job, it's a calling.

Well, Southern Lord does release a lot of lame splits and collaborations...

(I might have the wrong label in mind though.)

I never said they could live off their albums and merchandising. What I meant was that the label would have them record albums to cover the costs of touring and whatnot. I believe they themselves know very well that their music is live music, just as most black metal bands know their music is album music.

Besides, this isn't extreme metal. And contrary to what you may think, drone IS the latest fad here in Flanders.

Well, Earth just played near me quite recently and the venue they played in was a tiny wee pub. (I couldn't make it so I'm not sure how full it was).

They are the kind of band that can go anywhere and pull a dedicated crowd of weirdos, but not really reach beyond that. I guess it's probably the same for Sunn 0))), although they do have a kind of hipster factor about them.

Just making the point that they own their label, so album releases are up to them.
I disagree about it being just live music. Nothing like going to sleep with this on.

I kind of like sun zero parenthesis parenthesis parenthesis but it's not something I listen to more than once every three or four months. Maybe I'll check this out if I get bored of Black one.

Great album, listen to it quite often. Mom thinks it's weird, but she likes this more than the stuff I usually play.

Decided to give this band a go, and started with this album. The first track didn't impress me that much, but Big Church is AMAZING.

Just finished listening to the whole thing, Big Church and Hunting and Gathering are just incredible. The atmosphere on this album is breathtaking.

Have owned this album for about a year and have listened to it multiple times and I have to say I just can't get into it. I find it boring and pretentious. But maybe it's just that I don't like Drone.

I like this album. The first song doesn't really do much for me but Big Church and Hunting and Gathering are fairly good. Alice is a f*cking masterpiece.

I never understood their means of doing things at all, Neurosis essentially does the same formula and they do it better. I own "White2", and it's a pile of shit with Attila doing a cameo.

Yea. You must be really confused or just listening to another band.

Has the hype died down sufficiently for me to try this out?

IMO seeing music as just entertainment is idiotic. If you look on being entertained with a Sunn O))) album then you got it all wrong
