Agent Steel. These guys really are the epitome of crushing riff-based heavy/thrash metal, so you owe it to yourself to give them a chance. I personally own Order of the Illumanati and I love it.

Cage - Darker than Black is fairly crushing, but has excellent riffs and song structures.

Brainstorm - Downburst is amazing.


Anyhow .. these are all muscular sounding bands.

Also, although I'm sure you have before .. you might want to check out Grave Digger (anything Rheingold and earlier). There's a tad of the fantasy/power element you are trying to avoid, but the music is decidedly riff-based and the singer sounds like he is gargling a broken pint glass which really tends to cut back on the fantasy feel.

I figured it's something you would like. Why don't you recommend some newer Megadeth as well. They are so thrashy! Woo, yeah thrash metal.

The fucking excellent Iron Maiden clone.

Yes! Wonderful recommendation. Add Master and Kruiz to that list and you've got the best of Russian metal. Master and Aria have common members and are extraordinarily awesome traditional metal and thrash metal. Great guitar playing and wonderful vocal melodies.

Been listening to "Blood for Bood" by Aria. Fucking amazing. Calling them an Iron Maiden clone is unfair. They are a traditional metal band and the guitar playing is actually more technical than Maiden.
