Wow, that's pretty awesome stuff there. Great review, Alex.

This stuff reminds me of a less proggy Coven, somehow... especially with female vocals and all.

For those who wouldn't know, Coven are a prog band from the early 70s and while most bands did flower power stuff, they sang about Satan and even had a black mass on their debut album in '69, hah! Coven are also the center of controversy because of a supposed appearance of one of their albums relating to the Charles Manson case (on the crime scene or something, IIRC).

Yes, thanks man. That is exactly the reference I was looking for! It was somehow there, hiding in the crevices of the brain, but never came out! Perhaps this will help people calibrate The Devil's Blood closer.

This is really a fantastic album! Occult rock done right instead of the smoke and mirrors that is Ghost. It's a shame the band dissolved just as soon as they started getting some commercial recognition.

You know Selim Lemouchi is dead, don't you?

Yes. Committed suicide I believe. But the band had called it quits at least a year before he died.

Apparently, his depression made him unable to continue to produce and perform, since he was the sole composer the conclusion was quite unavoidable.

What a shame. They were such a solid band. Their last album was a bit of a train wreck but I don't think Selim really put his heart into it. If I remember correctly, most of the songs were only demos anyway and he put them out just for the fans to have.

Saw these guys with Watain and Behemoth in 2012. Good performance, picked up their shirt and was into this record for a while. I'd give it an 85/100. GREAT guitar playing.

Yeah, I caught the tail end of their set on that same tour. Great stuff. A little underwhelmed by Watain but Behemoth kicked ass as expected. Kind of a cool event actually. Cannibal Corpse and Exhumed both played on the same bill with all those guys for that one night only. I think I paid $25 for the show which is unbelieveable for all the talent on that line-up.

Saw them open for Behemoth (Watain was held up in customs for the first few nights of the tour.) I was super underwhelmed and found this really dull and boring. Never went any further in giving them an ear.
