great goal, very the shot definitely reminded me of Cantona's legendary goal.

cool pic:

Eusébio being chased by none other than current Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni, aka the Old Fox, in his days as an AC Milan defender. awesome picture.

random Benfica fans pic:

EDIT - another goal from Saviola, and that's 6 consecutive games scoring. excellent volley to gave us the win. Real and Barça almost wrecked this guy's career, an insult to his talent.

went to the stadium last night, Zidane and Ronaldo's friends vs Benfica All-Stars, refereed by Pierluigi Colina, in one of those "match against poverty" things. it was also Eusébio's birthday :dio:

many familiar faces in Zidane's side:
Barthez
Hierro
Cocu
Nedved
Hagi
Popescu
Figo
Fernando Couto
Davids
Kaka
Henry
Daniel Alves
Robert Pires
Dugarry
Kluivert
Olympic silver medalist (100m dash) Francis Obikwelu
and of course Zizou :dio:

Benfica also saw the return of some well-loved players, including Miccoli (now in Palermo and still kicking ass), Karagounis and Katsouranis (both in Panathinaikos), plus retired players like Rui Costa, Poborsky, Veloso, Magnusson, Dimas, Schwarz, Mozer and Valdo, and even stars from the 80's, like Chalana, Shéu, Humberto Coelho and Nené. fucking awesome.

There was even a crazy fan who gave Shéu a Benfica scarf

Unfortunately I missed all the action last night as was travelling. Only just got to see those highlights on youtube!

But yeah, really glad Arsenal did it.

Top athletes generally get drunk very fast, part of their metabolism. Two beers usually do the trick, two glasses of champagne... yah.

Really happy with the way these CL-quarters turned out. English teams have all been eliminated and Barca - Inter will truly be a clash to remember. Only downside has been Ibras injury, when he was finally getting back into form.

I do however feel that Barca - Inter should have been the final because if Barcelona go through, I think we will see the least exciting CL-final in ages..

Inter are probably the one team that can stand up to Barça defensively. They have conceded when no one expected them to, but when push came to shove their defense was rock-solid.

also I finally saw some of Messi's display against Arsenal, and what can I say? I'm privileged to be able to see him in action. fantastic, fantastic player, he's not as complete as Ronaldo (i don't think any player is), but he has so much more flair it's unbelievable. Ronaldo vs Messi will be the great football rivalry of the next decade.

Agreed on Messi not being that complete of a player, compared to some of the others that are among the absolute top level of the world. For example he isn't that strong with his right foot, and he's obviously lacking in the physical game, considering his size. But the thing with Messi IMO is that the qualities he has are extremely developed. His touch and his dribbling skills are simply out of this world. Combined with his speed when on the ball, he sometimes seem untouchable. Against Arsenal he seemed to be scoring pretty much whenever he felt like it.

Inter will not be an easy opponent though. With Samuel and Lucio they've got one of the best centreback pairs in the world. The purchase of Sneijder seems to have brought that creativity that used to be lacking up front. And Milito have turned out to be a great signing. If only Etoo would start scoring with higher frequency, I think Inter will be a force to be reckoned with, even against what's supposedly the best team in the world.

even physically Messi has improved vastly. he's harder to bring down and now is much more able to fight for the ball. he hasn't turned into a beast like Ronaldo did after joining United, but it might even be for the best. Ronaldo was already pretty tall, Messi is short and maybe rapid weight gain could ultimately hinder him, like it hindered Ronaldo (Il Fenomeno i mean) in his days at Inter.

Messi is still young, he's not reached his peak yet whereas Ronaldo is kinda there now. Expect the former to be remembered with more fondness than the latter.

Let's see second half.

Messi better than Ronaldo... another time.
But Xavi is the brain of this team. Xavi is the most intelligent player of the world.

Does that mean you think Messi is better than Ronaldo, or the other way around?

Either way, Barcelona will probably come through for both the leauge and the CL-title now. Hopefully Inter will give 'em some trouble though..
