I posted this on RYM but got no replies so far so anyways:

Quote:
Slough Feg and Taint are like the only metal I listen to these days. Somebody recommend me something with groovey riffs, awesome guitar sound, catchy + varied songs, some melody to the singing while still being badass, production that is neither too modern and Andy Sneapish nor lofi and painful to listen to, etc... go!

Also if you only recommend me one album I'll probably listen to it sooner than if you recommend me like 5

gogo recommendations. Basically there are no metal bands in the top 15 of my last.fm from the last year and that makes me sad!

Other examples of bands that do this well: Sahg, Doomriders, Bloodhorse... all I can think of right now.

That's quite specific there... uh...

The only thing that comes to mind is "Prehistoricisms" by Intronaut. I dunno if you've heard it yet, but I love it, and it might be right up your alley.

It's got fuckwin fretless bass, badass drumming... No melody in the vocals, all growling... but it's got a heavy Fusion-y sound to it. Production is good (don't go to YouTube, though the sound quality sucks on all the stuff from that album I've heard there)... They have a specific style that they stick with, so I dunno if it fulfils your criteria for "varied," although the songs are all quite distinct from each other...

Try it out at least.

I got a promo of their first album back in the day and it was ok although I'm not a huge fan of fretless bass in metal. Will check out.

I haven't heard their first album, so I dunno about that.

The fretless bass seems so natural in that album, though. It's not, like, super-fast or anything, and the bassist uses chords and stuff, so there's enough time in the music to savor the delicious fretless sound.

A metal version of Colour Haze would be the bees knees. Bloodhorse come close in general sound but they aren't on the same level musicianship wise. Maybe in a couple albums they'll start to get there.

Get into classic NWOBHM Diamond Head, Witchfinder General, Satan or hell even Canada's Anvil.

I've heard Witchfinder General, Satan, Dio Sabbath, and Blitzkrieg and they are all cool, although it's been ages since I've listened to the latter two. Listened to Anvil after seeing the documentary but didn't like their singer at all. Heard Cirith Ungol a while ago but I remember their guitar sound and singer being extremely unpleasant. So far To Check Out List is looking like this:

1. Intronaut
2. Vektor
3. Blitzkrieg
4. Diamond Head
5. Dio Sabbath
6. Angel Witch
