I liked it, it's like watching a game in a beehive.

That said, both matches pretty much sucked. Soccer is so lame... :lame:

Oh new guy, you are asking for it! I am sure there are other Americans/Canadians that feel the same way as you (including perhaps the person writing this) but woe unto those who slam the world's sport!

you are free to have your own opinion about The Beautiful Game.

about the trumpets: they just completely kill any and all atmosphere in the stadium! no matter who's winning or what's happening on the pitch (goal, penalty, half-time) it's always this same constant buzzing. and now a study came out suggesting that it causes hearing damage.

stupid FIFA.

Stupid n- oh right, can't have that.

I didn't watch, but I'll try and find some time soon.

Thanks but I don't see what was beautiful about those games...
Last time I saw a good soccer game was Milan vs. Barcelona (both games actually) but, as I've read somewhere, Milan's coach is the best even bringing a subpar team like Porto to win the cup.

Inter then, lol, their rivals AC Milan are the most widely known as Milan.

Porto won the champions league with José Mourinho, yes, but they weren't a sub-par team and they had a few lucky moments:
- they had players like Ricardo Carvalho, Deco and Maniche at the top of their game. they went to Chelsea, Barcelona and then-filthy rich Dinamo Moscow at the end of the season.
- they eliminated man united at the very last minute after United's keeper fumbled a ball, and if i'm not mistaken United scored a goal that was mistakenly disallowed.
- in the draw they got, successively, Olympique Lyon, Deportivo and Monaco. granted, these sides eliminated giants like Real Madrid, AC Milan and Chelsea on their way, but to say that Porto is better than Real because they beat the team that beat Real is plain wrong. in short, one EXTREMELY lucky series of draws they got.

that said Mourinho is still an amazing manager, and he did what he did with Porto right after they came from an absolutely terrible season.

EDIT - and yes, these first two games were crap, but one can't really expect more from the likes of group A. and "good games" from the point of view of a neutral fan are usually hard to find, on the other hand monster displays from a team completely dominating the adversary qualify as good games in my book.

Soccer is not lame, first match was average , second match was boring and horrendous.
There's Argentina with Messi, and Spain with half Barcelona,
and the young Germany and Serbia, and the group of Brasil, Ivory coast & Portugal.

Keep away of the yerterday's group and the Italy one... they seem to be the most tie-proned groups.

Today, England-USA & Argentina-Nigeria are the matches to see.

Yep, getting very lucky to tie. About what one would expect.

I can't believe they tied. I loved how the commentators tore that Green dude apart. "A schoolboy doesn't make that mistake." lol.

It deserves to be. I hope we play better than that in the future games - drawing to the Yanks, what a shocker.

actually, Portugal lost to them in our first match in 2002. 3-2, and at one point we were down 3-0. fucking idiot manager, as usual.

You surely can play better (Carrick in, Haskey's out is mandatory for that, Gerrard or Lampard more advanced), but with these bunch of goalkeepers, you can't go very far.

Oh dear, oh dear.... still, if you're going to fail it's probably just as well to do it in so spectacular a way in front of the entire world.

.....

Heskey played pretty well, actually, and probaby deserves to start more than Peter Crouch. It's just a shame that a couple of the best chances fell to him instead of..... anybody else.

America is a decent side and England's performance was better than in the first matches at the last two world cups, I'd say. Thought England was the better team overall but sometimes people just fuck up.

I just so wish England hadn't fucked up because now in the USA the media is flipping out: 'We tied England. We tied England! Now, soccer has truly arrived in this country!! Yeah, we've only been screaming for this for the past 20 years. This time it is actually going to happen!!!"

Haha, I can imagine.

Over here it was the opposite- some sections of the press essentially saying "look at those Americans, thinking they can challenge us" and now in some quarters there is some level of national outrage with poor old Rob Green as the scapegoat.

Bit silly really- anyone paying attention should know the USA are a good team perfectly capable of surprising anybody.

I reckon for the neutral that would have been an entertaining game but for an England supporter it was fucking stressful to watch.
