Star Control 2 (The Ur-Quan Masters.) Having played basically every worthwhile game there is to play on the PC I'm amazed that there still are hidden gems to discover. I've been up all night exploring the galaxy, mining, blasting away sentient species with my lasers and meeting new races. I love this game.
Never heard of that game. Is it old or new? Role-playing game?
By the way, what the fuck is wrong with you if you don't like Oblivion? Seriously, I agree the main storyline and the Fighters Guild line is a bit mediocre, but have you tried the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood? The sneaking and pickpocketing is where the real goodness lies.
Well... I never really got that far. I disliked every single mechanic in the game. Plus all the items, spells and weapons seemed kind of meh. I guess I never gave it a chance because I figured it'd be basically like Morrowind, which I think suffered from mostly the same problems: bad art direction, poor leveling and battle mechanics, dull world and most of all no sense of what you're supposed to be doing.
Star Control 2 is a space exploration/adventure game from 1992. It's been completely remade by fans to still be playable on newer operating systems, this version is called The Ur-Quan masters. In many ways it's a lot like Oblivion; there's no real sense of direction because you can choose in which order you want to finish all the quests and meet other races.
Anyway, I recommend giving it a try even though it's old as fuck. I don't think I've ever been as drawn in by a game. The different races are hilarious and talking to NPC's doesn't feel like a chore like in most games of this type.
