Well, supporting a team just because they are good is seen as a bit of a no-no amongst British football fans. (Manchester United fans who didn't grow up in Manchester are frequently figures of ridicule). That said, I support Arsenal (very half-assedly it must be said) despite not being from London.

Figures. Alright, Aberdeen it is then. Now, off to wikipedia to memorize their stats!

If you want proximity, Aberdeen. If you want a winner team, Celtic or Rangers. But if I were in scotland, sure my team would be Hearts, because their real name is awesome (Heart of Midlothian).

Great game...the World Cup has been a great experience for me--it's amazing how universal football is. I've never seen so many people so dedicated and emotionally invested in one thing. I'm officially a football fan.

What are the best websites/news sources for football news?

www.guardian.co.uk has a great sports section. Their commentary on the blogs is infinitely more entertaining than the BBC's, and I'm told the podcasts are great too.

If you can handle the occasional article written by some moron like Jemele Hill, then ESPN Soccernet is good. Also FIFA.com is pretty good as well, though their media is complete garbage.

Yeah she is totally retarded. I don't know why they sent her to South Africa....because she's African American??? There's got to be a better connection than that. At the risk of sounding racist....which I hope I am not but realize it's pointless to say, but she needs to stick to football and basketball as she doesnt know anything about non-American sports.

It was very clear that she didnt really spend any time watching the games because she referred to the spanish style of play as "clunky." While I agree they didnt play their best, they were far from clunky. In fact, in general, they were quite silky

When does club football season actually start? Are all the leagues on different schedules?

Yeah mostly, but the English, Italian and Spanish one start pretty much at the same time. Premier League starts a couple of weeks prior to the Spanish and Italian though.

in Scotland, the obvious choice of club (it is kind of weird to talk about choice of club, btw) is Inverness Caledonian Thistle, for their awesome name.

well done Spain.

Celtic fan hear. We start our season tonight away to Braga in a Champions League qualifier. Got to say I'm not to confident, right now I'd probally take a 1 goal defeat and hopefully then we could get the win at Parkhead.

Braga played a very good season last year (they came 2nd, ahead of 4-time champions Porto), but apparently have been poor on the pre-season. i dislike them, but obviously root for them to make the CL.

Can't say I'm suprised we lost the way we did. We've got so many new players it's going to take a while for them to gel and as long as we win the league it'll be a successful season.

My beloved Anderlecht won their first Champions League qualification match against The New Saints. Not a big opponent, but for a Belgian team to get anywhere near the CL is already quite an accomplishment.

saw this and thought it'd be an interesting post - last year's pre-season top transfers compared to this year's:

lol @ Mario Gomez and Chygrynskiy

also, notice two Benfica players in the most recent top 10

Was the first game of the season today and Celtic managed a 1-0 win away to Caley Thistle. It was a fairly slow start but we came into the game at the end of the first half and dominated the whole second half. And it was some goal by Paddy McCourt, the guy is probally the most talented player in Scotland.
