I read the first two pages of Vineland and the language seemed a little more normal than Mason Dixon but I'd never heard of either so I waited.

Vineland was just too goofy for me to enjoy.

Just finished The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. I quite liked it, although the first half was better than the second.
It was actually the first book I've read for my enjoyment in years. I should read more books.
I'm thinking about reading The Life of Pi now.

Roadside Picnic

Any of the guys read this? It is the book that the movie Stalker and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R game series was loosely based upon. It is very very good. Supposed to be one of the most important books of the sci-fi genre. I'm not too big on sci-fi but I really loved it.

What is the fail argument?

Speaking of fail, I'm reading Richard Pipes on the Russian Revolution...again.

No comprehensive argument yet but she likes to equate Marxism to Stalinism and it's a lot of 'he said, she said' kinda stuff within history, acting as if groups were autonomous individuals rather than just a bunch of people which is funny because her politics emphasizes plurality so much.

Arendt's definition of bourgeoisie makes all of Western society bourgeoisie which is kinda interesting. A lot actually.

Anyone have some Isaac Asimov suggestions for me? I've really enjoyed the few short stories I've read and am wondering where to go next.

The Foundation Trilogy. No question. Also the Robot books are awesome. After that, read Foundation's Edge and Forward the Foundation if you want, but ignore Prelude to Foundation and Foundation and Earth.

Add Arendt's The Human Condition and Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra to my current list. Fuck Being and Time. With a broom.

I stayed up until 6:00 AM finishing A Game Of Thrones, lol.

Now I'm starting on The Eye Of The World after a friend reccomended me the Wheel Of Time series.

I've been reading a shit-ton of fantasy lately. After The Eye Of The World, I think I'm probably gonna read some Vonnegut, Lovecraft, or Faulkner before returning to either series.

Bought a pile of books on my recent trip including:

The best of H.P Lovecraft
A couple of the Wheel of Time-books
and Steven Erikson's Gardens of the Moon.

Any experiences with these?
