ufc 118 this saturday coming up.. picks?

I say Penn wins back his title only if he can get Edgar to the ground. and I say Couture wins if he can avoid the hands of Toney and pin him against the cage and out wrestle him.

haven't really looked at the rest of the care yet

Not making picks, other than Baby Jay and Couture.
A solid card tonight, I'm looking forward to it and Penn is always fun to watch.
I really want to see Mushmouth put down, athough, as always he has a punchers chance, even more so than usually obviously.
Couture is a smart fighter, though and I see him taking it to the ground and finishing it there.

Sooooooooo disappointed in BJ. I can't believe he looked that bad, he's one of my favorite fighters.

Honestly I've never totally been sold on BJ. The UFC has hyped him, Rogan, and others... But he's never really been at that level in my opinion. His early reign was way back in the day when the LW division was still getting its start, and as soon as he took the WW title from Hughes he disappeared... Leaving him to come back to some losses at WW and then a decent LW stint that has been cut short.

He's just really not the P4P great everyone thought he was. He's definitely a top LW fighter and will go down as a legend, but people need to be realistic here.

It was nice seeing Joe Lauzon get such a big V, Randy relieved me in totally smashing Toney without an issue, and I'm really glad Edgar is still the champion... He's just a way nicer guy without the attitude that Penn had.

What's need for Penn? Takanori Gomi baby. I really hope Gomi can get some big victories and get a title run going... This is wishful Pride fanboy thinking, btw.

+1
Penn has always been one of my top fighters, and last night's performance was a bit baffling.
It looked as though he called it in.
Weird thing is, before the fight began, he looked very focused, but by the third / fourth round he looked lost.
Edgar has some pretty nice footwork going on, though.

Diaz was awesome, very impressed with his total domination over Davis, though Lavigne was a little late in stopping the fight; everybody in the room was like "Dude, he's out, what are you waiting for?".
Lauzon... damn that was pure rapeage, Ruediger had that "what just happened" look on his face afterwards.

Haha, Toney's eating his fucking liver, loved it.

Couture should probably focus on LHW division, though... he's looking old and worn, and I can't see him keeping up with the fresh blood.
All around, good night, found Florian / Maynard a bit dull, though.

Man, it seems as though Penn has lost it; whether or not he will be able to regain "it", we'll have to wait and see.

Mir / Cro Cop looks pretty badass, though.
Too bad about Nog's knee, really wanted to see the rematch.

I want to see Cro Cop continue to win, but another loss for Mir will put him on thin ice. I've always had respect for Mir, even though he's a cocky asshole.

so I am kinda torn for the main event at UFC 119.

haha, Mir seems to bring out the hate. I think he just talks shit to hype his fights though, after all the dust settles, he seems to be pretty respectful in general, and I think his confidence gets taken for arrogance a lot of the time.
I predict Mir will add a V to his record, though.
Not the best matchup for Mirko.

May be going to the next Strikeforce event (Diaz vs. Noons), but it's tentative due to possible calendar conlict.

Alright since Dev reminded me about this thread I figure I'll give it a bump with some Fight Night discussion for tonight.

It's a pretty sweet card, especially for free. Plus we get the next season of TUF in which we get to watch GSP outclass Koscheck in all aspects, not just fighting.

Main Card
Nate Marquardt (186) vs. Rousimar Palhares (186)
Efrain Escudero (159)* vs. Charles Oliveira (154)
Jim Miller (155.5) vs. Gleison Tibau (154)
Cole Miller (156) vs. Ross Pearson (156)

Prelims

Yves Edwards (155) vs. John Gunderson (156) ( Hope we get to see this )
Jared Hamman (205) vs. Kyle Kingsbury (206)
Rich Attonito (185) vs. Rafael Natal (186)
David Mitchell (170.5) vs. Anthony Waldburger (171)
Brian Foster (170.5) vs. Forrest Petz (170)
Tomasz Drwal (185.5) vs. Dave Branch (186)

Pretty sick card for a freebie. Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares are on their way up the middleweight ranks and I imagine the winner of this fight is going to be put right up there in the main contenders for the belt. Marquardt has already had his shot, so I'd like to see Palhares win. The thing is Marquardt is pretty deadly when he's on, and has a really well rounded game that is above what Palhares has to offer. Hopefully it'll be exciting.

I think Cole Miller vs Ross Pearson should be entertaining, as well. Miller has a great grappling game and pretty solid stand up. He's a fan of finishing fights and does so pretty often. Pearson has a pretty commanding game though as far as up and comers go so I could see him getting a decision.

Either way, watch the fights tonight. Should be sick.

I completely forgot about Fight Night tonight. Thank god you have a terrible taste in music or you wouldn't of been able to remind me.

The Pearson vs Miller and Escuerdo vs Oliveira fights were sick. And Palhares fucked up royally, looking at the judges when there are potential fists flying at your face is a bad idea.

Yes indeed. Da Bronx is totally legit as a LW. The kid is only 20 years old and has all the time in the world to improve. The way he was looking for victory in that whole fight against Efrain is something fighters should take notice of. That's how you push a fight.

Who's going to be watching Mir/Cro Cop on Saturday? I'm looking to be disappointed and watch fading Cro Cop basically get murdered. I don't really see what he can offer Mir, especially at the stage in the career that both of them are at. Mir is training like he should be, coming into full circle with his abilities, and Cro Cop is still the same old Cro Cop without the youth.

It's a real shame. I hope he wins or doesn't get destroyed too badly.

Mir will stand and strike for a bit then decide to take things to the ground. Where he will either get a TKO or a submission win.

Yeah. He says he's not really confident he can get the shot on Mirko, though, and maybe he's right. He'll have to scramble and get something going to get Cro Cop to the mat, which he should be able to do.

Hell, he should do it Shinya Aoki style and dive for the heelhook. :)

, my pics for the evening:

Mir over Cro Cop. I love Cro Cop but he's just shown me nothing in his UFC run that's been even remotely impressive. I don't think he'll really bring it all that much tonight, and Mir should have a gameplan to take care of Mirko. He'll halt his two fight skid in the process.

Bader over Nog - I like Bader a lot and have since the show. I hope he continues to improve and remember he is a strong wrestler and can put guys at a disadvantage of with it. I just hope he doesn't get convinced he needs to stand and trade with guys like so many wrestlers do.

Serra and Lytle I don't really care all that much about. It'll probably be a decision.

I'd like to see Dunham beat Sherk. He's had some solid wins at LW and a win over Sherk could definitely put him in the mix. Sherk had his chance already and I like to see new guys come in.

Stephens and Guillard should be fun... I want to see Matt Matrione beat Beltran, I rather like Meathead.

I have a big interest in Mark Hunt's fight. I hope it's shown one way or another and I really really hope he gets a big win. He's been training hard at ATT and said recently in an interview he wish he would have been up there years ago. He knows this is his last shot so it's really do or die in there for him.

I agree on all fronts, but I think Nog will win. he almost lost his last fight, he wont let that happen again.
