MY CAROLINA HURRICANES-JERSEY CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY! I'M PSYCHED FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON.

Oh and:

Reports are saying that the Canes are close to signing former LA-man Patrick O'Sullivan. Tompa?

It's a two-way deal. O'Sullivan can out up the points, but is absolutely terrible defensively. Was -19 or some shit last season, now that's terrible.

EDIT: -35, even worse

Cool, where did you buy the jersey and what did it cost you?

O'Sullivan had one tremendous year on the Kings. He had good chemistry together with Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown and a laser shot with combined with a shoot first mentality made many Kings fans think he'd be a 30-40-goal scorer in the near future. He was no slouch defensively either, working hard on the forecheck and using his speed to break up plays and scoring a few shorthanded goals as well. He was voted the best defensive forward on the team that year.

Unfortunately this all happened while the Kings were coached by Marc Crawford, employing an all out attack coaching style. Once the Kings got Terry Murray as a coach who preached a simple dump and chase, gritty defense first approach to the game O'Sullivan struggled to adapt, as did some other creative forwards who excelled under Crawford. He had trouble finding his role and lost confidence. Ultimately he was dealt to the Oilers where things apparently only got worse. Much worse. He looked really unhappy in Edmonton. I think most of his problems are mental as he certainly is talented enough.

I definitely think O'Sullivan on a cheap one year deal is a good gamble. Low risk with the potential of a high payoff.

Yeahyeah, I've heard his great in one end and fucking awful in the other, so we'll see. But yeah, he was with the Oilers last year. He's on a two-way deal anyway, so we'll see how much time he gets.

@Tompa: I bought the jersey from a company called Sportsdrakt. Got his email off of a site, and just ordered. Not to expensive, and it shipped pretty fast.

so with the regular season only 2 short weeks away, the hockey pools are back in full swing. I'm in 2 this year, one was an auto draft and the other is a live draft that I will be doing on October 3rd.

my team as follows, after a few waiver moves and trades:

Center - Niklas Backstrom, Matt Duchene, Dave Bolland, Joe Pavelski
Left Wing - Mason Raymond, Milan Lucic, Andrew Burnette, Dan Cacillo
Right Wing - Joe Pavelski, Dustin Brown, Rene Bourque
Defense - Shea Weber, Christian Ehrhoff, Tyler Myers, Jeff Schultz, Viktor Hedman
Goalie - Jonathon Quick, Steve Mason

I acquired Dave Bolland, Jonathon Quick, Ryan Callahan, and Michael Repik(I quickly dropped both Repik and Callahan) for Pascal Leclaire, Jason Arnott, James Neal, and Dennis Wideman. I also traded Radim Vrbata for Andrew Burnette.

as I said I dropped Repik and Callahan for Hedman and Carcillo. I also have dropped Braydon Coburn for Jeff Schultz.

I think I am very stong on defense and up the middle, but my wings are pretty weak and my goaltending is very iffy.

could be a great year, or a very long year.

think there is enough of us to do a for fun hockey pool?

so what, 2 of us? if I made one, would you do it silent man? they are easy to do, and it's not like ours will be super competitive, just for fun.

what about tompa? thomas? noobles? brahm? any other posters i'm forgetting.

I vow not to be competitive with you or Silent Man or any other first timers. But as I've won several leagues in my day, and I'm sure DW has too, we can taunt each other.

I'm very worried about your goaltending too. Good team other than that question mark, though. Could I get in on your livedraft league, or is too late?

Oh, I have an idea to draw some interest!

I buy winner a CD of their choice (if I win, I buy a CD for myself!).

If anyone not named DW or me wins I'll buy them two CDs, and if anyone not named DW or me finishes in 2nd, they get a CD as well.

I had this idea in my head for a fantasy league several months ago and then forgot, so kudos to DW for thinking of it.
