With the exception of Saves, I use all those categories in the league I run and they've been used in another league that I've been part of for a few years now. Just remove that one stat and it's perfect IMO.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with having an even number of stat categories, assuming you're concerned about their being too many ties. I've found they don't occur very often, especially if you have SHP which are rare.

if you think 12 will be fine, then so be it. seeing as this will be our first hockey pool, we can do things one way now and if they don't work out then we can change them next year.

But we should find out how everyone feels about it. What if we did a live draft in the morning on the weekend?

well, not to be a dick here, but I already set it up to be a autodraft.

I know they suck, but this is really just a for fun thing. it's not like it's going to be the end of the world to do one. as I said, next year we will plan this better and try a live draft.

Yeah I know, I just have a knack for taking pointless stupid things like fantasy hockey a little more seriously than I should.

I've never done an autodraft before, so I have a quick question. Say I want a forward for my first player, so the first twelve spots of my pre-ranking are all forwards. But then say I want a defenseman or a goalie as my second pick. Is there any way that I can make rankings for each individual pick? Ie, if my first twelve rankings are forwards, and I get to round 2 and one of those players is still available, I'll get two forwards instead of one forward and one goaltender, which is what I would prefer. Any way round this?

Unfortunately there isn't and that's why I hate them.

Am I correct in understanding that winning the Penalty minutes category is as valuable as winning the Goals one?

Yes. Everything is worth 1 point.

I could of made things worth different points, but I'm tryingto keep it as simple as possible.

Fair enough, just trying to sort out my pre-draft rankings.. It's kind of hard not to go for the big point players all the time though :)

Roughly how many players should you rank?

In my pool I did about 30 player preferences, but i know some people do way more. My one friend did about 250 players, so really it depends on how much time you're willing to put into it.
