I like RPGs like Grandia, where story/characters and battles are the main focus. I hate (for the most part) games like Final Fantasy with endless amounts of stupid shit to do.. So yes, I love rpgs but I like them to be a tad more linear than the average fan.. To this day I still havent beat Oblivion or Fallout 3. In Oblivion Im 123 hours in and have been playing for 3 years because of sidequests I dont even know whats going on anymore and with Fallout Im about 60 hours in and the end doesn't seem to be anywhere in sight. For me its all a distraction and takes away from the feel of the story..

My best example is in Oblivion when you get the amulet at the start of the game and the idea is that (as fast as possible) I have to get the amulet to some guy to save the day.. Instead I spend the next 3 months as a vampire picking flowers in the woods.. Its stupid and no sir I don't like it.. Though I can find some enjoyment in these games (which is why I play them) the distractions keep them from greatness in my eyes.

lol. Then just don't do the sidequests. I beat Fallout 3 in two days (10 hours or so) and was very disappointed with how short it was. The Final Fantasy games (FF13 excluded) are awesome because the stories are so fucking epic, the sidequests are always optional. Interestingly what makes FF13 really suck balls is the lack of "distractions."

Well like I said before in my first post that it kinda bugs me if I dont do them. I feel like I am missing out if I dont do them and and it bugs me if I do do them so I just dont like it when games add so many. And yes I realize that that is my own little stupid quirk, I was only pointing out why I thought Mafia II was better and GTA4, which is because I like my games more linear and focused on story.

And thats cool if you like the FF games, some of them I like. Of the more recent ones 9 was my favorite (7 and especially 8 are my least favorites). And I like the story in 12 but like Oblivion and Fallout I never finished it because there is just too much to do. I was determined to do all of the hunts in 12 and it just became too much and other games took its spot as games I wanted to play.

To be 100% honest, I agree with you on everything silent man. Except, I've just given up on most RPGs (save a few) and stick to fps or sports or gears of war type stuff. Sure, it's what all the knuckledraggers play, but I don't have a feeling of being overwhelmed by a video game when playing Modern Warfare 2, etc..

I don't understand why anyone would limit himself to just one or two types of games. I play sports and FPS games, but I can still find enjoyment in every other genre.

Personally I've never tried a sports or racing game. I'm just never drawn to it. I get the feeling that the former is best enjoyed with a gamepad (or on a console of course) and the latter with a steering wheel.

Looking forward to Fallout: New Vegas. A LOT. It doesn't look all that good visually, but I know I'll be drawn into it again. I'm playing FO3 again to get in the mood.

i's not like I don't play RPGs. I do own Fallout 3, Fable 2, etc.. I also plan on gettig Fallout New Vegas and Fable 3. I understand that Fable is not exactly the deepest RPG out there, but still, it's not Call of Duty.

I do like side-missions in games as long as it's not ridiculous - still finding stuff to do in GTA4, but am not going to hunt down each and every giant pigeon thing, eg.The less freeform nature of Mafia doesn't make me very enthusiastic... still have to finish Fallout 3.

Erk, finally in the ranks of console-owners - my little brother brought us something called an X-Box 360 slim today. We have Fable 2 and Modern Warfare 2. What else do we need?

Don't get Fallout: New Vegas or any other game with a sizeable modding community for it, get that on pc.

Maybe not your thing, but it's hard to not have a blast with it.

Gears of War 3!!!

too bad it got delayed

also, Medal of Honor is pretty weak. my buddy bought it for his PS3, and it's pretty crap. the online is kinda fun, but the story is terrible. and the fact that it's on a PS3 sucks balls too.

It got delayed? To when?

And honestly, I'm not surprised MoH sucks. All EA wants to do is cash in on the success of Modern Warfare.
