Review sounds interesting enough. I was bit worried about 2/5's of the the band leaving.

I'll have to get in next time I do a CD order.

Not an avid listener of Dimmu Borgir but I really like this album.

The band did not get to where they are today without cause, and no, they did not achieve their success because they are “mainstream”.

I would say both of those statements are completely true. They were a middle of the road bm outfit before they stole emperor and cradle of filth's ideas, and they have achieved success because they converted the extremity of black metal into chugalug melodeath riffing and horribly processed "harsh" vocals.

If watering down the style of music you play into something more people will find appealing isn't being mainstream or commercial, then I don't know what is.

This review got me interested to check this out after all.
I never felt Shagrath was that great of a vocalist though. He's mediocre at best.

I watched the video for one of the songs...it didn't look promising. What is the difference between this and Mallcore?

Aren't you the guy who whined about my criticism of the last Slipknot album? Wow, one bollocking from Valefor and you've turned all kvlt on us.

I'm probably going to see them on Thursday with Enslaved, which I mainly want to see Enslaved but I'll definitely stick around for Dimmu since I've never seen them and I enjoy quite a few of their songs even though I find many of their albums as a whole to be weaker. Hopefully they'll play some newer songs and we'll see how they are live.

Slipknot was good. They sounded like a real metal band. This sounds like trendy horseshit. I love Bodom to death but they have been heading in the direction for a long time too, sy I can empathize with you, as a fan. I make excuses for my favorite bands too.

Slipknot and a real metal band should never be uttered in the same sentence

Exactly why is that. How are they anything like Creed and Korn, everything that came out between 95-05 that isn't true or death metal isn't nu-metal They're one of those bands where all the classic elements are there and none of the bullshit is. So what, there SOME rapping on the first album, which has had nothing to do with band since. The original guitarist left after Slipknot was recorded and Jim Root stepped in. The credits are not correct in the book because of musician's union rules. You guys are still talking about that band from 1999 that just got a deal two years after their embarrassing Self-released record. Where is the context guys?

1- Slipknot are a nu-metal band
2- Their self titled release was the best thing they have ever done

Agreed with both points.

Don't you have some Labyrinth albums to listen to?

This album is pretty good but I'll admit it wears thin with repeated listens. I'd probably sit it around 70/100 which is by no means a bad score in my book personally. As a longtime Dimmu fan I'd really like to see them take some time off and come back with something really strong, and different. This album is certainly a bit of change but I'd like to see something more radical.
