Make sure to have a copy in English at hand with that Proust.

I read the first two pages and actually understood it (English authors have gotten me used to long weirdo sentences) other than two or three words. Def gonna need a French-English dictionary at hand.

Read 50 pages of Andrea Dworkin's Intercourse and wasn't digging the literary analysis style. Read 20 pages of Adorno on Heidegger for my thesis this year. Read some Adorno on 1940s film music composition. It was basically a 100 pages saying "don't sell out" in theoretical jargon but was really interesting for how it described art as a point of liberation. (Charles, if you want to try some Adorno you might like his musicology mixed with his thoughts on the cultural industry, Composing for the Films with Hans Eisler). Now about 10 pages into We Real Cool by bell hooks on black masculinity.

Good read.

Has anyone here ever finished The Castle?
I have read The Trial, The Metamorphosis, Amerika and the Hunger Artist, but I cannot seem to finish The castle.

Haven't read that one. Hunger Artist was pretty good if I remember correctly.

That's what I've read. A few short stories too. I think I have Castle I try it.

Finished bell hooks' We Real Cool. Reading some of Adorno's Minima Moralia and skimming my notes in One-Dimensional Man.

I'd recommend Amerika over The Castle. The Castle is actually pretty good, just overly long. I'm stuck at roughly 3/4 of the way in.

I need to find something to read.

Go figure Amerika is what is on my shelf.

V: Master and Margarita? Lolita? Bukowski's Post Office or Ham on Rye? Johnny Got His Gun?

V: Master and Margarita, if you can stomach some Christianity in your reading, is fantastic. The devil descends upon Soviet Moscow; what more could you ask for?

Read Factotum and liked it a helluva lot.
I actually have Ham On Rye, and have yet to pick it up.
I think that will do nicely, thanks.

Never read any Nabokov. Dostoesvky is my all-time all around favorite writer, though, so I should probably check out more Russian literature.

I may have to pick it up, sounds interesting, and the Russians have always had a way with the Arts.

Hence my first two suggestions. I really want to read some Pasternak, more Chekhov (only read his short stories), more Nabokov (only read Lolita), some Turgenev, and some Gorky. Solzhenitsyn is good but kinda a broken record. Just a really good record.

Cool. Too many writers that have gone unread, I have to start delving more into Russian works.

Anyway, if you like surrealism in literature, Amerika has it.
